Ruben Amorim reveals Alejandro Garnacho will buy Man United stars dinner after his reaction to his substitution against Ipswich – as head coach warns ‘perception is important’
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed Alejandro Garnacho will buy his team-mates dinner after he did not watch the remainder of their win over Ipswich from the bench after being substituted.
Garnacho was bright in a rollercoaster first half but was the player sacrificed after Patrick Dorgu was shown a straight red card and Manchester United were reduced to 10 men.
He was replaced by Noussair Mazraoui on the stroke of half-time, a decision which large sections of the home crowd audibly booed, before trudging straight down the tunnel back to the dressing room.
After the match and moments before Amorim faced the media in his press conference, Garnacho posted on his Instagram story a picture of him walking down the touchline towards the tunnel without a caption.
Speaking ahead of Man United’s FA Cup tie against Plymouth, Amorim confirmed Garnacho had watched the remainder of the match from the dressing room and went home.
The Man United boss insisted there was ‘no issue’ with the winger, but said he had reminded him that the perception was important at the club.

‘He came to me. It was funny because he came to my office,’ Amorim said.
‘He [Garnacho] went to dressing room, watched the game, then went home.
‘It is not an issue but I told him that at Manchester United everything is an issue.
‘At this club, perception is important, perception is important.
‘He will pay for dinner for all the team. That is it.’
