Audible’s ‘Commuter’ Stars Lizzy Caplan, Richard Schiff, Thomas Lennon

“The Commuter,” an Audible original starring Lizzy Caplan as an ex-FBI agent who is unexpectedly entangled in a bizarre murder plot, has made its debut on the audio service.

The series, co-starring Richard Schiff and Thomas Lennon, is written by James Patterson and Aaron Tracy, who also directs. It premieres Feb. 27 exclusively on Audible (see this link), included for subscribers of Audible Plus and Audible Premium Plus or available as a stand-alone purchase. The series comprises seven episodes of about 30 minutes each.

According to the logline for “The Commuter,” “When a former FBI agent overhears two strangers whispering about a murder on her morning commute, she decides to take action, leading to violent and dire consequences.”

Caplan plays Amy Nicols, who was “an FBI agent with a dogged need to protect everyone — until that instinct caused her to mishandle a crisis, lose innocent lives and lose her job.” Now a civilian working in private security, one morning on a commuter train she overhears a young couple plotting a murder. “Ignoring warnings from her family and friends, Amy’s instinct to protect and serve compels her to investigate. But the further she goes, the more she finds her own life in danger,” per the show’s description.

Schiff plays John Sarris, Amy’s former FBI partner who was booted out of the bureau, lost his fiancée and is now working as a low-rent PI and “drinking too much.” Lennon plays Reg, Amy’s closest pal on her daily commute. The cast also includes Sarah Steele as Gillian, “the momma bear of the commuters,” and James Urbaniak as Amy’s work-obsessed husband, Howard Nichols.

“The Commuter” is produced by Broadway Video and Audible Studios, executive produced by Bill Robinson for James Patterson Entertainment, Ian Stearns for Audible Studios, and Britta von Schoeler for Broadway Video. The series is produced by Louis Caggiano for Broadway Video.

Patterson is the prolific and best-selling author who is the creator of multiple characters and series, including Alex Cross, the Women’s Murder Club, Jane Smith and Maximum Ride, as well as true stories about the Kennedys, John Lennon, Tiger Woods and more.

Tracy is a writer, producer, and the founder of audio company Parallax. He is the creator and writer of multiple original audio dramas including “The Coldest Case” starring Aaron Paul, which ranked in the Global Top 10 on Audible’s service in its first year of release. Tracy’s TV writing credits include “Law & Order: SVU” (NBC), “The Tap” (USA) and “Sequestered” (Sony’s Crackle). He also has sold original series to CBS, USA, Freeform, Lifetime, MGM TV, Lionsgate TV and others.
