Son allegedly cuts off his father’s ARM with a samurai sword in Kalgoorie

A father is in hospital undergoing emergency surgery to reattach his right arm which was allegedly cut off by his own son with a samurai sword outside their suburban home.

Jaxon Jai Trinidad, 19, allegedly used the weapon to sever his father’s arm at the bicep after the pair got into a violent confrontation on Wednesday.

Police were called to a home on Collins Street in the Kalgoorlie suburb of Picadilly, in Western Australia’s Goldfields, following reports of a serious assault.

Once officers arrived they found Trinidad’s father, James Nybo, with his right arm cut off and in a life-threatening condition.

The 40-year-old was rushed to Kalgoorlie Hospital before being airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital for further treatment.

Trinidad was arrested on Thursday and was charged with one count of aggravated grievous bodily harm, one count of carrying or possessing an edged weapon, and two counts of possessing a controlled weapon.

He was refused bail and faced Kalgoorlie Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Matthew Fullgrabe told the court Trinidad grabbed the sword after hearing a commotion outside his house, reports the ABC.

A man, 40, has been rushed to hospital with a severed  arm after he allegedly entered into a confrontation with a male teen on Collins Street in Kalgoorlie (pictured), Western Australia, Wednesday

Mr Nybo was allegedly armed with a baseball bat outside and had previously sent threatening texts to Trinidad, the court heard.

Once outside Trinidad allegedly withdrew the sword in an attempt to scare his father who he had told to ‘f*** off’.

Mr Nybo then allegedly used the baseball bat to smash the window of a car before raising it above his head ‘about to strike’, Ms Fullgrabe said.

This is when Trinidad allegedly used the sword to sever his father’s arm, causing it to fall on the road, the court was told.

‘The accused panicked and ran inside, leaving the victim bleeding profusely on the road,’ Mr Fullgrabe said.

Mr Fullgrabe said the sword was allegedly left at the house at Trinidad fled the scene before he handed himself into Kalgoorlie Police Station the next day.

The court heard Mr Nybo was still in hospital where he is undergoing emergency surgery to reattach the arm which have thus far been unsuccessful.

Trinidad did not enter his plea and the only time he spoke was to confirm his identity.

The court heard Trinidad did not have a criminal record prior to the alleged incident.

Magistrate William Yoo said Trinidad was likely to face an immediate prison sentence.

Half a dozen members of his family are understood to have arrived in the court to support the teen, with his grandmother offering a surety to secure his release.

The magistrate ordered a home detention report and family violence report to determine if electronic monitoring was suitable for Trinidad’s release.

An application for his bail was refused and the court was adjourned until March 14.
