Andy Reid told to quit as Chiefs’ head coach after team’s Super Bowl humiliation against the Eagles

Andy Reid has three Super Bowl rings and over 300 combined wins in the regular season and playoffs – but one radio personality thinks he should quit as the Chiefs’ head coach.

Reid’s team suffered a blowout loss to the Eagles in last Sunday’s Super Bowl, with Philly winning 40-22 (at one point leading 34-0) and Patrick Mahomes well below his best as he committed three turnovers.

And while Reid, 66, is considered one of the top coaches in the sport and has now been to six Super Bowls, Fox Sports Radio’s Rob Parker thinks it’s time for him to go.

‘Andy Reid should step down as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs,’ Parker said on his radio show Wednesday, per Awful Announcing. ‘And you’re going to be like, ‘They just went to the Super Bowl three times. Andy Reid. Blah, blah, blah.” This is not a one-game reaction because they lost in the Super Bowl…

‘Where were the adjustments? Where was the game plan? I’m not a football coach. Guys who were football coaches and players questioned the game plan – no running game to start at all. And then you get behind, and then you gotta pass. This is what he did in Philadelphia all the time – pass happy. Always throwing the ball; they got tired of that in Philadelphia.’

To Parker’s point, the Chiefs rushed the ball just 11 times in Super Bowl LIX – with four of those coming on Mahomes scrambles.

And Fox Sports Radio’s Rob Parker thinks the coach, 66, should quit as Kansas City’s coach

The quarterback admitted after the game that he ‘didn’t play to my standard’ this season, and Parker believes the Chiefs’ apparent problems go past their most recent game. 

‘Number two, this fall off the cliff is two years in the making,’ Parker continued. ‘Last year, they won the Super Bowl, so it covered up how bad things were. You remember with the receivers, and the struggles, and Patrick Mahomes. Here’s another year. Andy Reid is supposed to be an offensive genius. Why is Patrick Mahomes struggling so much when you can’t figure out a way to get him off and to get him to be not 50 touchdowns and throwing every ball downfield but way better?

‘Can you admit Patrick Mahomes hasn’t been the same quarterback the last two years?… Andy Reid is supposed to be that guy, and yet, we haven’t seen it. It’s been a nice run. The last two years have been disappointing regular seasons. Yes, they went to the Super Bowl. Yes, [they] won both those times. I’m not talking about the last two years. And this year, they got embarrassed.’

The Chiefs did go 15-2 this regular season, though they reached 30 points on just two occasions – one of which was an overtime win over the Buccaneers.

The season prior, Kansas City had an underwhelming regular season by their lofty standards, finishing 11-6 and having to beat Buffalo and Baltimore on the road en route to their Super Bowl win.

And Mahomes’ numbers have also dipped over the last two seasons.

His 3,928 passing yards this season were the lowest of his career as a starter, while his touchdown percentage dipped to a career-low 4.5 percent over the last two years.

Nonetheless, the quarterback will be motivated to get back to his best next season, while Reid indicated before the Super Bowl that he’d be returning next season. 

‘I enjoy being around the guys,” Reid said last Tuesday. 

‘I enjoy the football games. You can’t put in the hours that we do and not enjoy it. So, I really love the game.”
