Adrien Brody is heating up the Oscars race with a new campaign for J. Crew, in which he models pieces from the brand’s new Spring Menswear collection.
“When I think about American style, I often think of actors from an earlier generation like Marlon Brando and James Dean,” Brody tells J. Crew in talking through his perspective on American style, growing up in New York City and dressing with authenticity. “There’s a style I associated with that kind of emotive acting. It has a degree of formality but there’s also a very casual quality. They figured out how to make it work.”
In a series of photos for the campaign, which launched Tuesday morning, the Oscar-winning actor poses in the brand’s Harrington Jacket, Poplin Shirt, Double-Pleated Trousers and Camden Loafers. Another set of images see him in more a relaxed fit, consisting of Chino pants and Sperry sneakers.
“I like a very classic, timeless look,” he tells J. Crew. “What makes something iconic is that it’s timeless.”
A standout piece is a navy Mockneck sweater, reminiscent of one that Brody wore in high school. “I had this great dark green J. Crew cable-knit sweater that worked with my sense of style,” he says. “I don’t like to wear anything that doesn’t feel authentic or comfortable.”
Brody is currently up for an Oscar for his lauded role in Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist,” nominated for 10 Oscars including best picture, actor in a leading role and best director. The three-and-a-half-hour epic, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival last year, follows fictional visionary architect László Toth (Brody) and his wife Erzsébet (Felicity Jones) as they flee post-war Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern America. Soon after, their lives are changed forever by a mysterious and wealthy client.
