Donald Trump orders review of NGOs to crack down on government spending

President Donald Trump signed a memorandum Thursday to review funding to non-governmental organizations as he continues his crackdown on spending that does not line up with his agenda, according to a senior administration official.

It comes after his ally Elon Musk shuttered USAID, sending shockwaves through aid programs

‘The memorandum directs all department and agency heads to review all funding provided to NGOs to ensure that their future funding decisions align with the interests of the United States and priorities of this Administration,’ it states.

Trump has embarked on a massive shakeup of the federal government in Washington, D.C. in his first three weeks in office.

And he has steamrollered his way through funding programs that promote diversity and inclusion, seeking to jettison any programs that he has not approved.

The two-paragraph memo does not specify any specific charities to be targeted but specifies that only those that promote the national interest will be funded in future.

‘The United States Government has provided significant taxpayer dollars to Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs), many of which are engaged in actions that actively undermine the security, prosperity, and safety of the American people,’ it says. ‘

It is the policy of my Administration to stop funding NGOs that undermine the national interest.’

Trump was repeatedly frustrated during his first term by administration employees who blocked his plans. He dubbed them ‘the deep state.’
