From Hollywood to handcuffs: Relive the shocking downfalls of your favorite child stars who ended up in jail

Thanks to their impressive acting abilities and their adorable personalities, many child stars were expected to go on to have impressive careers littered with awards, accolades and major acting credits.

But instead, a slew of them ended up becoming mired in controversy, substance abuse issues, legal problems, and court appearances.

That’s right, some of Hollywood’s biggest kid actors descended on shocking downward spirals that saw them ultimately end up behind bars.

Take Jake Lloyd, for example. The actor, who was skyrocketed into the spotlight after he portrayed a young Anakin Skywalker in one of the beloved Star Wars films at just eight years old, fled from the spotlight after his sudden rise to fame.

In his teenage years, the once shining star became embroiled in scandal after he was accused of attacking his own mother during a fit of rage.

He was then arrested for reckless driving, driving without a license, and resisting arrest – and ultimately served 10 months in jail.

His mugshot, which showed him starring angrily into the camera, was a far cry from the sweet little Anakin that stole the hearts of millions years prior. 

The actor recently detailed his harrowing journey when he sat down for his first interview in years.

He explained that he had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and insisted that he was doing much better after completing an 18-month stay at an inpatient mental health facility.

It was certainly a happy twist to Jake’s rollercoaster ride journey from successful child star to jailed felon.

Many other kid celebrities have had similar tragic stories that saw them end up in legal trouble, including Shia LaBeouf, Mischa Barton, Aaron Carter, Amanda Bynes, Lindsay Lohan, and Macaulay Culkin, among others.

Some were able to ultimately turn things around – like Lindsay, who after years of partying, rehab stints, and arrests, recently became a mom and has had a major career resurgence.

Others, however, sadly couldn’t overcome their problems – like Aaron, who passed away in 2022 at age 34.

As Jake speaks out, FEMAIL has rounded up all the child stars who went from Hollywood to handcuffs, and recapped each of their harrowing downfalls.

Star Wars actor Jake Lloyd was arrested for reckless driving, driving without a license, and resisting arrest in 2015

Jake was skyrocketed into the spotlight when he portrayed a young Anakin Skywalker in the wildly popular Star Wars movie Episode I – The Phantom Menace at just eight years old.

Afterwards, he starred in two small movies called Die With Me and Madison, before he ultimately retired from acting. His last credit was in 2005, according to IMDb.com.

In a shocking interview in 2012, Jake said starring in Star Wars turned his life into a ‘living hell’ and made him never want to act again.

‘Other children were really mean to me,’ he shared. ‘They would make the sound of the light saber every time they saw me. It was totally mad.

‘My entire school life was really a living hell – and I had to do up to 60 interviews a day. I’ve learned to hate it when the cameras are pointed at me.’ 

At the time, he also slammed director George Lucas and said he refused to watch the movie because it was ‘creepy.’ 

‘When you have something like that there’s a lot of expectations for it to meet the standards of the public and I don’t think George did that,’ he scathed.

‘For me to go back and watch it now would be kind of creepy.’

In March 2015, police rushed to his home after his mother, Lisa Riley, claimed he had attacked her.

Lisa told TMZ that he ‘knocked her down and stomped on her three or four times, causing abrasions and bruising on her arm,’ but she ultimately declined pressing charges.

Months later, Jake was arrested for reckless driving, driving without a license, and resisting arrest.

He ultimately served 10 months behind bars at Colleton County Detention Center in Walterboro, South Carolina.

Jake’s mom revealed in an interview with Scripps News last year that he had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2008, which she said caused him to hear voices and act erratically.

She explained that it was hard for Jake to even grasp he had a mental illness because he also suffers from anosognosia, a neurological condition that makes it difficult to understand you have a health problem. 

Lisa said things began to spiral for Jake in 2018 following from the tragic death of his younger sister Madison at age 26, from natural causes.

She revealed that he had ‘a full-blown psychotic break’ in 2023 that lead to him being sent to a mental health facility. 

She explained that he entered the treatment center after he turned off the car they were driving ‘in the middle of three lanes.’

‘The police got there, and they asked Jake some questions. He was talking to them, but none of it made sense. It was all word salad,’ she recalled, adding that the next day, he began treatment. 

At the time of the interview, Lisa said her son had eight months left at the facility and was progressing well.

‘He is relating to people better and becoming a little bit more social, which is really nice,’ she added.

Contrary to speculation, Lisa also said that Jake remained a huge fan of the Star Wars franchise.

‘He loves all he new Star Wars stuff. People think Jake hates Star Wars. He loves it. Jake loved filming Star Wars. He had so much fun,’ she said. 

Earlier this month, Jake, now 35, sat down for his first interview in years, and he told reporter Clayton Sandell that he had completed his treatment and was feeling ‘pretty good.’

‘I can now accept taking on continued treatment, and therapy, and my meds. Everyone’s been very supportive,’ he said.  

Jake added that he was ‘very appreciative’ of the support he’s received from Star Wars fans, stating, ‘It’s immediately therapeutic. Right now, [the attention from fans is] still therapeutic.

‘It’s helpful for people and healthy [for me]. It isn’t something I’d shy away from. I really do appreciate the time that’s been taken on us. I’m very appreciative.’

The O.C.’s Mischa Barton faced charges of drunk driving, marijuana possession, and driving without a license in 2007

Mischa started acting when she was only eight years old, starring in the soap opera All My Children.

As a child, she also appeared in the films Lawn Dogs, Notting Hill, The Sixth Sense, and Pups.

During her teenage years, she famously portrayed Marissa Cooper in the Fox show The O.C. 

But she sensationally left the show after season three, and she later claimed that she departed because of ‘bullying’ endured behind the scenes.

In the years that followed, Mischa, now 39, descended on a downward spiral that saw her face an arrest and multiple hospitalizations.

She was arrested in 2007 for drunk driving, marijuana possession, and driving without a license.

She pled no contest and was sentenced to three years probation. In addition, she was sent to court-ordered rehab.

In 2009, the star was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold after police responded to a ‘medical issue’ at her home, Access Hollywood reported at the time.

She later said on Dr. Phil that the incident stemmed from her being ‘exhausted.’

‘I probably took about eight days off that entire year, and I had no time to myself,’ she said.

‘I traveled the world – I’m not complaining, I was in some of the most beautiful places. [But] we filmed nine months out of the year, and every other second I spent doing advertising campaigns or whatever it was. I didn’t realize I was exhausting myself.’

The star was hospitalized again for a mental health evaluation in 2017 after she repeatedly threatened to kill herself, according to two neighbors who called 911 to seek help for the actress

Footage of the incident, which appeared to be filmed by a neighbor, showed her ranting and raving while she hang over a fence in her backyard.

She later said in an interview with People that she had been given the date rape drug GHB that night.

‘I voluntarily went to get professional help, and I was informed by their staff that I had been given GHB. After an overnight stay, I am home and doing well,’ she said. 

Later that year, two ex boyfriends teamed up to try and sell an intimate video and photos of her that were taken without her consent; she successfully sued to have distribution of the video and images blocked.

In recent years, Mischa has acted in The Hills reboot The Hills: New Beginnings and the Australian soap opera Neighbours.

Little Rascals alum Bug Hall was arrested for allegedly inhaling air duster cans in 2010

Bug Hall was a successful child star in the 1990s, famously portraying Alfalfa in the 1994 flick The Little Rascals.

After that, he acted in the comedy The Stupids, the soccer flick The Big Green, Fox’s The Munsters’ Scary Little Christmas, and the Disney movies Safety Patrol, Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, and Get a Clue.

But Bug later left Hollywood and moved onto a farm in Texas with his wife and children.

In 2020, he made headlines when he was arrested for allegedly inhaling air duster cans, called huffing.

TMZ reported at the time that he was booked on Saturday for misdemeanor possession for use to inhale or ingest a volatile chemical. 

A family member of his had called police to check on him while he was staying at a hotel, law enforcement officials told the outlet.

Once there at the hotel, the cops found ‘a ton’ of the air duster cans that are used for keyboards in the room. 

He was asked by the arresting cops if he inhaled from the cans, and he allegedly answered that he was.

He was released on a $15,000 bond. 

In addition to his arrest, the actor has faced scrutiny over the years for his controversial comments on X, formerly Twitter.

He once allegedly claimed it was his ‘duty’ as a father to find ‘good husbands’ for his four daughters as well as advise them to follow their future spouses’ ‘judgment.’ 

He also allegedly posted in 2022: ‘We punish severely in my home for unacceptable behavior. Punishment begins at around 10 months. Before the age of reason it’s an immediate corporal/retributive justice.’ 

Then, in 2024, Bug was fiercely slammed over a ‘sexist’ remark he made following the birth of his son.

Bug, now 39, left a number of social media users speechless after he declared on X that he finally had ‘an heir’ after welcoming his fifth child.

When one X user pointed out that he already has four daughters, Bug replied: ‘I said heir, not dishwasher.’ 

His last acting credit was in the 2020 film This Is the Year. He also served as the executive producer on the 2021 Netflix show A Tale Dark & Grimm.

That’s So Raven alum Orlando Brown was arrested multiple times for various drug charges, and was taken in for misdemeanor aggravated menacing in 2022

Orlando Brown is best known for portraying Eddie Thomas in the Disney Channel show That’s So Raven.

He also starred in Major Payne, Two of a Kind, Family Matters, Max Keeble’s Big Move, and Eddie’s Million Dollar Cook-Off throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.

But the actor has faced a slew of legal problems in recent years.

In 2016, he was arrested after he reportedly struck a woman, believed to be his girlfriend, in a parking lot in Torrance, California.

He was charged with possessing and bringing methamphetamine into police headquarters, possessing drug paraphernalia, battery and resisting or delaying arrest.

The star was then arrested again in 2018 after he was caught leaving a hotel in Las Vegas known for prostitution and illegal drug use.

When searched, police found methamphetamine on him and he was charged with felony narcotics possession, drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, and obstructing a public officer.

He was taken into custody once again a few months later after he broke into a friend’s Las Vegas restaurant.

He was sentenced to 23 days in jail after being convicted of historic drug and burglary charges.

Then, in December 2022, Orlando was arrested in Ohio and charged with misdemeanor aggravated menacing after a conflict with an unnamed man that he was living with.

He was accused of threatening the man with a hammer and a knife blade; he was released from jail after posting a $25,000 bond, and was put under house arrest. 

Afterwards, his lawyer requested an evaluation to determine if Orlando, now 37, was psychologically capable of going through a trial. It’s unclear what the results were of the evaluation.

Orlando sensationally claimed to have had a sexual experience with Nick Cannon in a shocking video shared in 2020, and admitted at the time to previously being addicted to ‘crystal meth and marijuana.’

Nick later denied Orlando’s claims and said that while he ‘didn’t know Orlando personally’ he was ‘praying for the young brother.’

Haley Joel Osment was charged with drunk driving and drug possession in 2006, seven years after he starred in The Sixth Sense

Haley Joel Osment became one of the most well-known faces on the planet after he starred in the immensely popular film The Sixth Sense in 1999, when he was 11.

He was nominated for an Oscar thanks to his performance, becoming the second-youngest performer to ever receive an Academy Award nomination for a supporting role.

But despite his successful career as a child actor, Haley disappeared from Hollywood for 15 years shortly after he was charged with drunk driving and drug possession.

In 2006, a then 18-year-old Haley sent shockwaves around the globe when he was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and possession of marijuana following a car crash. 

He pleaded no contest to one count each of misdemeanor DUI and misdemeanor drug possession and was sentenced to three years’ probation and 60 hours in an alcohol rehabilitation and education program, and was fined $1,500. 

He then decided to move to New York City and took a step back from acting to instead focus on school, graduating from New York University in 2011. 

He later returned to the spotlight and starred in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, Entourage, Tusk, and Blink Twice, amongst other things. 

Haley, now 36, told E! News in 2023 that he found Hollywood ‘aggressive, predatory and relentless.’

Tatum O’Neal was the youngest actress to win an Oscar, but she was later arrested after she was caught buying crack cocaine in 2008

Tatum O’Neal became the youngest person ever to win an Academy Award when she got the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at age 10 thanks to her role in Paper Moon.

She also starred in International Velvet, Little Darlings, Nickelodeon, and Circle of Two while she was growing up.

But her career began to slow down as she entered adulthood, and she soon became embroiled in scandal.

In 1998, Tatum lost custody of her three children – whom she shared with ex John McEnroe – because of her heroin addiction. 

Then in 2008, she was arrested after she was caught buying crack cocaine in New York City near her apartment.

She was charged with misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance. She ultimately plead guilty to disorderly conduct and was ordered to spend two days in a drug treatment program.

Tatum suffered a massive stroke in May 2020 that was caused by an overdose on pain medication, opiates, and morphine, which left her in a coma for over a month. 

‘She also had a cardiac arrest and a number of seizures,’ her son later told People. ‘There were times we didn’t think she was going to survive.

‘At times, it was touch and go. I had to call my brother and sister and say she was thought to be blind, deaf and potentially might never speak again.’ 

She was unable to speak or communicate when she awoke from coma. 

During her hospitalization, she was also diagnosed with aphasia, a potentially devastating condition that causes a person to lose communication skills. 

Since then, Tatum has been working on building up her strength, memory, and reading and writing abilities at several rehabilitation facilities. 

The actress, now 61, has also been attending 12-step meetings and focusing on her recovery under the guidance of a physician. 

‘I’ve been trying to get sober my whole life,’ she told People in 2023. ‘Every day, I am trying. I want to be with my beautiful three kids.’

Home Alone’s Macaulay Culkin was arrested for possession marijuana and two controlled substances in 2004

Macaulay started acting when he was only four – after a neighbor suggested that his parents try to turn him into a star – and right away, thanks to his adorable looks and charismatic personality, his star power was undeniable.

Macaulay landed role after role, and by the time he was 10, he was cast as Kevin McCallister in the beloved Christmas classic Home Alone – which turned him into one of the most well-known kid stars on the globe.

And while Macaulay’s sudden stardom seemed like it would be a dream come true to most children, he later admitted that he struggled with his newfound fame and began to crumble under the immense pressure that came with it. 

To make matters worse, he has said that his father, who also worked as his manager, began ‘physically and mentally abusing’ him, forcing him to stay up for hours to learn lines even when he was exhausted, and threatening physical violence if he ever messed up on set. 

In 2000, pictures began emerging that showed him looking extremely frail and acting erratic, and rumors quickly started to swirl that he was using drugs. 

On one occasion, he got into a screaming match with a paparazzi after a long night of partying, and on another, he stormed off stage in the middle of a performance with his rock band after someone booed them. 

And in 2004, he was arrested for possession marijuana and two controlled substances.

He ultimately plead guilty and received a one-year deferred sentence for each charge. 

‘It was so blown out of proportion. I never did anything more than any upper-class Upper West Side kid you know would,’ he later told New York magazine of his partying. ‘We weren’t, like, all squatting in the corner shooting heroin.’

He also insisted to the Guardian, ‘No, I was not pounding six grand of heroin every month or whatever.

‘The thing that bugged me was tabloids wrapping it all in this weird guise of concern. No, you’re trying to shift papers.’

Macaulay, now 44, eventually overcame his problems and he’s now a devoted family man.

He has mostly stepped away from acting and instead focuses on his wife, Brenda Song, and their two sons.

Hannah Montana alum Mitchel Musso was charged with a DUI suspicion in 2011 and was arrested on charges of public intoxication and theft in 2023

Mitchel Musso famously starred in Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana from 2006 until 2011, which began when he was 15 years old.

He went on to star in Life Is Ruff, Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire, and Pair of Kings. He also hosted Disney Channel’s prank series PrankStars in 2011.

In 2011, was charged with a DUI suspicion after he was pulled over and police smelled alcohol.

He avoided a six month sentence by pleading no contest to the charges and instead, he was sentenced to 36 months of informal probation.

The incident lead to him getting replaced on Pair of Kings.

In 2023, TMZ reported that he had been arrested on charges of public intoxication and theft under $100 following a conflict at a motel in his hometown of Rockwall, Texas.

The outlet said law enforcement officers were called to a motel there, where the actor was allegedly acting ‘belligerent’ and had reportedly stolen a bag of chips from the market. He was released on $1,000 bond.

Afterwards, Mitchell, now 33, told Entertainment Weekly that he was ‘absolutely not drunk or drinking, and there was 100 percent no theft.’

He said it was the clerk of the motel who became belligerent with him, rather than the other way around. 

He added that the situation was ‘unfortunate,’ but insisted it was just ‘a misunderstanding.’ 

The charges were ultimately dropped. No reason for the dismissal was given.

Lindsay Lohan was arrested 20 different times after finding fame as a child thanks to her role in The Parent Trap

Lindsay got her first official acting role at age 10, when she was cast as Alexandra ‘Alli’ Fowler in the soap opera Another World. 

One year later, she was cast in the beloved Disney movie The Parent Trap, which was a huge success, earning $92 million worldwide at the box office and launching a major career for the young star. 

Lindsay soon became one of the most well-known faces on the globe thanks to her roles in the Disney Channel flick Life Size, Get a Clue, Freaky Friday, and Mean Girls.

But she ultimately turned to drugs and alcohol to cope with the sudden fame, and throughout 2006 and 2007, the star was often photographed enjoying wild and boozy nights out. 

In 2007, she was arrested for drinking and driving after she crashed her Mercedes-Benz into a curb in Beverly Hills, California.

She then checked herself into a treatment center, where she stayed for 45 days. 

However, two weeks after leaving the facility, she was arrested again for a DUI, as well as cocaine possession and driving with a suspended license.

Over the course of the next four years, Lindsay spent more than 250 days in rehab and was arrested 20 different times – including four times for breaking her probation. 

However, she spent less than two weeks in jail in total, and was put on house arrest for 35 days from all of her legal troubles.

In a 2013 interview with CNN, Lindsay reflected on her ‘totally irresponsible’ and ‘stupid’ decisions during that time of her life.

She also recalled the press hounding her after her first arrest, which made things even harder.

‘The press were on me all the time,’ she said, adding of the first time she had been arrested, ‘It was the first time I’d taken drugs.

‘I was out in a club with people I shouldn’t have been with, and took cocaine, and got in the car. It was so stupid.’

She also said she didn’t consider herself an alcoholic, adding, ‘I’ve never woken up in the morning and had a drink. 

‘But when I was younger, I was definitely going out too much and I was drinking too much. I’ve never been a junkie, and never will be.

‘I just like going out late to clubs with friends and listening to music. Always have done. It’s not that unusual for girls of 26.’

In addition, the star told Oprah in 2013 that she had struggled with Ambien and Adderall addictions, and admitted to using cocaine ’10 to 15 times.’

Lindsay officially returned to acting in November 2022, starring in the lead role in the Netflix holiday movie Falling for Christmas. 

Since then, she also acted in Irish With and Our Little Secret, and she’s now set to reprise her role as Anna Coleman in the upcoming Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday. 

Lindsay, now 38, married Bader Shammas in 2022, and together, they welcomed a baby boy.

Amanda Bynes was arrested for throwing a bong out of a window and faced two DUIs in the years following The Amanda Show

Amanda started out in the industry at the age of seven, and went on to become one of the biggest child actors of her generation.

She famously starred in the ’90s Nickelodeon sketch show She’s All That before landing her own series, The Amanda Show. 

She later transitioned to a teenage romcom queen, starring in a number of successful films, including She’s the Man and What a Girl Wants.

But just when Amanda seemed to have the world at her feet, her career took a hit following a 2012 DUI arrest.

She pleaded not guilty, but was charged with two misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run.

Then, in 2013, Amanda was arrested for throwing a bong out of a window of the 36th floor of her Manhattan apartment. 

That same year she was put on a psychiatric hold after being accused of setting a fire in a stranger’s driveway. 

Two years after her first DUI, the troubled star was arrested for a DUI once again in 2014, after she was pulled over in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Los Angeles and cited for being under the influence of a controlled substance while driving her Mercedes-Benz. 

Amanda was ultimately diagnosed with both bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and was placed under a conservatorship in August 2013. 

After nine years, the conservatorship was terminated in 2022, after a judge ruled the legal arrangement was ‘no longer required.’

But in 2023, Amanda, now 38, found herself back in headlines when it was reported that she had been placed on a psychiatric hold after she was found ‘roaming the streets naked and alone.’ 

TMZ reported that she ultimately entered a mental health facility but checked herself out three weeks later. 

Even Stevens and Holes star Shia LaBeouf was arrested four times and was accused of sexual battery and assault by his former girlfriend FKA Twigs

Shia landed the role of Louis Stevens in Disney Channel’s Even Stevens in 2000, when he was 14.

He also acted in Holes, Constantine, Disturbia, Transformers, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull throughout the early 2000s. 

He was arrested in 2014 after it was said that he was ‘acting disorderly, yelling and being loud’ at Studio 54 theater in New York City.

Shia plead guilty to disorderly conduct and began outpatient treatment for alcoholism.

He was taken into custody again in 2015 for public intoxication in Texas, and then again in 2017 after he reportedly went into a rage at a market in Georgia when he was denied a cigarette at around 4am.

Several videos then caught the actor going on race-fueled rants as he was taken to the jail and booked. 

At one point, he called a white officer ‘racist’ because he was ‘arresting a fellow white man,’ according to the arrest report. 

He pleaded guilty to obstruction and nolo contendere to disorderly conduct. The public drunkenness charge against him, which carried a maximum sentence of a year in prison, was dropped.

‘What went on in Georgia was mortifying,’ he later said to Esquire of the incident.

‘White privilege and desperation and disaster… It came from a place of self-centered delusion… It was me trying to absolve myself of guilt for getting arrested.’

The judge sentenced Shia to one year of probation and ordered him to take anger management classes. He also spent 10 weeks in court-ordered rehab.

Shia faced his fourth arrest in 2020 when he was charged with battery and theft following an altercation with an unnamed man.

According to E!, he was ordered to complete a judicial diversion program within 12 months, and then the charges would be dropped. 

That same year, the Transformers star was accused of sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress by his former girlfriend FKA Twigs, who filed a lawsuit against him.

Among the allegations, she accused him of violently attacking and strangling her, knowingly infecting her with an STD, and physical and verbal violence. The lawsuit is still ongoing.

Diff’rent Strokes alum Dana Plato was arrested after she robbed at Las Vegas video store and for forging a prescription for diazepam before her tragic death

At just 13 years old, Dana Plato was given the lifetime of the opportunity as she accepted a role on hit NBC TV series, Diff’rent Strokes. 

Despite many years of success on the show, she struggled with the pressures of instant fame like many other child stars and began experimenting with drugs and alcohol as a young teen.

She later admitted to using marijuana and cocaine, and even suffered from an overdose of diazepam at age 14.

She left the show in 1984, when she was 20, after it was revealed that she had become pregnant with her then-husband Tyler Lambert.

They split four years later and she then went through a string of failed romances as she battled drug and alcohol addiction for years. 

In 1991, she was arrested after she robbed at Las Vegas video store with a pellet gun.

She was ultimately released after acclaimed singer and actor Wayne Newton posted her $13,000 bail.

She was given five years probation; but she was arrested again in 1992 for forging a prescription for diazepam; she served 30 days in jail and entered rehab.

Dana tragically passed away in 1999 at age 34 from a drug overdose. 

Todd Bridges was charged with making a bomb threat and attempted murder, but was acquitted of the latter after a sensational trial

Dana’s Diff’rent Strokes costar Todd Bridges faced his own shared of problems after his time in the show.

Throughout his 20s, Todd has admitted that he battled a crack cocaine and methamphetamine addictions.

He was arrested numerous times. In 1983 he was fined $240 for carrying a concealed firearm and in 1987 he plead no contest after he was charged with making a bomb threat.

In 1989, he was charged with attempted murder after he was accused of shooting at a drug dealer.

His lawyer claimed that he was being framed during a sensational trial, and he was eventually acquitted of the charge. 

Todd was arrested again in 1992 on suspicion of transporting narcotics for sale and possession of a loaded firearm after police found methamphetamine and a gun in his car.

He has been clean since 1993, and has had a career resurgence since then.

He famously starred in the show Everybody Hates Chris, and he also appeared as a commentator on the reality series World’s Dumbest from 2008 until 2012. 

Todd, now 59, also competed on the third season of Celebrity Big Brother in 2022, and recently married designer Bettijo Hirschi. 

Terminator 2 star Edward Furlong faced multiple arrests and was banned from spending time with his son after the youngster tested positive for cocaine

Edward Furlong established himself as one of Hollywood’s hottest young actors after he starred in James Cameron’s 1991 classic Terminator 2: Judgement Day alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. 

After he wowed in the film, many expected a bright future for Edward.

But he began struggling with drug use and alcoholism in the late 1990s, and underwent several stints in rehab.

In October 2012, he was arrested for domestic violence after a public spat with his girlfriend at Los Angeles Airport. 

The woman involved in the argument had visible marks on her arm and Edward’s bail was set at $50,000. 

He was also hit with a restraining order from his ex-wife Rachael Bella, who claimed he once beat her during in argument.

In addition, he was banned from spending any alone time from with his then-six-year-old son in 2012, after the youngster tested positive for cocaine.

In March 2013, he was sentenced to 180 days in jail for a violation of his probation and violation of a protective order, and served 61 days behind bars.

Edward was arrested again in May 2013 and charged with assaulting his girlfriend and threatening the woman in an attempt to dissuade her from contacting police.

He avoided another prison sentence by agreeing to five years probation, 90 days in rehab, and a year of domestic violence counseling. 

In 2016, he was booked for being under the influence of an illicit substance, and that was the turning point that pushed him to finally get sober. 

At sentencing in February 2017, Edward was handed a suspended sentence of 36-months on probation that would kick in if he didn’t complete a six-month drug rehab. 

He ended up spending a year at a drug rehabilitation center in Huntington Beach, California, and he hasn’t looked back since. 

Following decades of struggle, the actor has turned his life around in recent years, revealing to DailyMail.com in 2022 that he had re-launched his career.

He starred in the 2024 horror flicks The Forest Hills and Unspeakable: Beyond the Wall of Sleep.

‘It [felt] great to be back on set and sober,’ he told DailyMail.com. ‘I didn’t feel hungover when I went to work. 

‘There’s other sober people at work which is weird because if you’re not sober, you’re not hanging out with the other sober people. It was cool.

‘It’s nice to get a second chance.’ 

As for his past problems, he confessed, ‘I had a lot of awesome things happen but everything comes with a price, nothing is free.

‘When I was younger, I didn’t have too many people looking out for me and I was left to run wild.

‘I didn’t know how to manage my money. If I was older, I wouldn’t have made so many bad decisions.’

The actor, now 47, added that he now had a ‘wonderful relationship’ with his son. 

‘Things are slowly turning around and I just want to get my life back to what it was and what I was doing in the first place,’ said the star.

‘I f**ked over so many people when I was on drugs, gaining back the trust of the people that work with you when you’ve flaked on them so much is a long process.

‘It’s like the friendship that happens after a bad breakup – people are learning to trust me again. It’s great and things are slowly starting to get going again.’

Aaron became a huge star after he released his debut pop album in 1997 when he was only nine years old.

But like many of his fellow child stars, he began to struggle as he entered his teenage years.

In 2008, he was arrested after he was pulled over for speeding and police found marijuana in his car. 

He was again arrested for driving under the influence in 2017. He plead no contest and was placed on probation. 

Aaron also had a turbulent love life and struggled financially, filing for bankruptcy in 2013 after he revealed he had wracked up more than $3.5 million in debt.

In the late 2010s, he attempted a comeback and released his first album in 16 years in 2018.

By 2020, he launched an OnlyFans career, and would charge up to $100 for nude photos. 

In October 2022, he was pulled over on suspicion of DUI after his on-off girlfriend Melanie Martin ‘called the police’ – but the embattled singer was later cleared of any wrongdoing. 

He tragically passed away at age 34 on November 5, 2022, after he was found dead in his bathtub. 

His death was ruled as accidental, with the cause of death being drowning after inhaling difluoroethane and taking alprazolam.
