There are many enticing reasons to watch Married At First Sight (MAFS) but if I had to pinpoint one scenario that really fills my reality television cup, it’s watching the experts put the contestants in their place for their shitty behaviour. In some wonderful, enriching television, we get to see just that when expert John Aiken absolutely slams MAFS groom Eliot Donovan for his awful behaviour.
In case you missed it (somehow), Eliot left the experiment during his honeymoon after his bride Lauren Hall didn’t seem to tick his boxes. In an unconventional twist, he requested a one-on-one chat with MAFS daddy John to share why he left. And boy, it became clear pretty quickly that John wasn’t lying when he told us before the season started that the experts “go harder” on the contestants than ever before.
“I had to get out of there. I feel like I stayed for longer than I really should have,” Eliot said. I gave the honeymoon two days, yeah.”
“I’ve been pretty consistent with what I was looking for and that the person I was matched with was nothing like that. I was expecting to meet a cute, librarian-like girl that was younger than me and I ended up with what felt like a Kardashian sister.”
Eliot claimed that Lauren wasn’t active enough because she “struggled to run from one side of the tennis court to the other”.
“I want someone that’s under 30, that’s something that kinda works.”
As you may have guessed, John disagreed.
“Let’s be honest, you’re here on this show because you’re 35 and single and you’ve been going out with young women and it hasn’t worked,” John said.
When Eliot called his description a “narrative”, John clapped back.
“It’s not a narrative, it’s just fact.”
“I think that you currently are involved in a toxic pattern which is on full display. You’ve been matched with someone who after two days you decided isn’t right and you’re running. I need you to look at yourself and ask yourself ‘Why am I sabotaging these relationships?’”
Of course, Eliot didn’t agree with John’s professional analysis.
“I disagree with everything you just said,” he said before John called time on the session.
Although Eliot didn’t agree with John’s analysis, the internet certainly did and praised him for his frank words to the dodgy groom.

Although it seems like Eliot has called it quits on the experiment, there are rumours that he will be popping up as an intruder with another bride later on in the season.
