Humiliated wife of rugby star finds love again after he was caught on camera performing sex act on friend’s wife in alleyway behind Greggs

The humiliated wife of a rugby league star who was caught on camera performing a sex act on one of her friends in an alleyway behind a branch of Greggs has found love again.

Lauren Boyd, 34, has rebuilt her life since the very public betrayal by her then husband, Castleford Tigers star forward Joe Westerman.

As footage of his sex act went viral, the heartbroken mum-of-two went public with her disgust at Westerman’s behaviour, threw him out of the family home and began divorce proceedings.

MailOnline revealed this week that Westerman has now become engaged to marry for a second time – to girlfriend Alision Hopkinson.

And now we can also reveal that Lauren too has moved on emotionally and is in a new relationship with Karl Holmes, a strapping trucker – who also plays rugby.

Friends of Lauren have expressed their delight that she has found happiness so quickly and has been able to move on with her life.

Holmes, operation director for a HGV recovery and repairs business, has described Lauren as his ‘rock’ in Facebook postings.

His friends have also said how pleased they are that he has found a new woman in his life.

Lauren and her new man went public with their romance in August 2023 – six months after her husband was caught with his trousers down after a night out drinking.

Commenting on a photo, Karl’s sister Dawn said: ‘A better year for you too Lauren Boyd as you have gone through hell as well…. fate has brought you together. So glad you found each other.’ 

Around the same time Lauren was getting serious with Karl, Westerman revealed he was also back dating and involved with estate agent Alison.

And this week they have now announced their engagement with mum of two Alison showing off her sparkling ring and posing up with the 6ft 4in star.

Westerman, 35, became the subject of national ridicule two years ago after he was caught performing a sex act in a deserted alleyway in his hometown of Castleford, West Yorkshire.

The woman involved was never identified but attractive blonde Lauren said she was a friend’s wife.

As the clip went viral on Twitter Lauren was forced to deny she was the blonde woman involved.

The primary school teacher spoke of her anger and humiliation after her teenage daughter was shown the seven second clip by friends.

Westerman apologised for his actions and issued a grovelling apology blaming his ‘decision-making around alcohol’. He was also fined by his Super League club and told to carry out community service as a punishment.

In a series of texts to Lauren he wrote: ‘Words will never ever explain how sorry I am. I can’t explain what happened cos I physically can’t remember. It’s disgusting and I now have to live with it forever. Losing you and the kids is heart-breaking Lauren, you deserve so much better.’

Adding: ‘You always said alcohol would f*** me up. Story of my life. I miss you like crazy. U was perfect. I need you to know I can’t remember anything about that night. I look like a zombie.’

But the words cut no ice with Lauren who ended their nine-year marriage and told her husband to leave the marital home.

Lauren said she would never take back her cheating husband ‘one trillion per cent’ and said she felt sorry for her children and those of the woman involved.

Lauren said: ‘What kind of example would I be setting to my children – particularly my girls – if I were to give it another go?

‘I want them to know that this is not all right, that it isn’t acceptable behaviour in a relationship and that we all have self-worth.

‘I now have to think about my children and begin rebuilding our future together. It’s daunting, but he’s got no one to blame but himself.’

She added: ‘Truth is, he only told me because it was on social media. But I’m glad it was found because the thought of kissing him after that just makes me feel sick.’

Westerman first revealed he was back dating when he posed with mother-of-two Hopkinson for a photo at Pontefract races and put a love heart emoji next to her name.

Holmes, who has a son and daughter, put on his Facebook page that he has been in a relationship with Lauren since August 2023.

He regularly updates his social media with photos of Lauren as they enjoy family time and nights out and has called her ‘my queen’.

His most recent posting earlier this month showed Lauren holding a cocktail at a steak restaurant.

He wrote ‘Broken collar bone n ribs n punctured lung n still brought my darling girl out for date night’.

Alongside a photo of Holmes with his arm in a sling Lauren added: ‘Look at him..I’m having to cut all his food up.’

Since the marriage split Westerham has remained playing with Castleford Tigers and this weekend a testimonial match against Hull will take place to celebrate his 17 years as a player.

He was the team’s captain in the 2024 season.

In an interview months after the incident, he said he was focused on playing rugby and had an amicable relationship with his now ex-wife.

He said: ‘It was a massive mistake on my front, a stupid drunken mistake which shouldn’t have happened. Rugby-wise, I put it to one side and I think I’ve played some of my best rugby again.

‘I’m pretty good at leaving stuff off the field when I walk over that line. But it’s made me have to re-evaluate a lot of things. I am happier off the field and my kids seem happier which is important as it was hard on them. And it’s very amicable at the moment (with ex-wife Lauren).’
