WWE’s annual Royal Rumble event is primed for a return on Saturday night as the road to WrestleMania begins.
It is the 38th annual Royal Rumble and the first time the event has been held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis – home to NFL side the Indianapolis Colts.
Since its first showing in 1988, Royal Rumble has become one of the most significant dates for WWE fans to mark in their calendar thanks to its unique 30-person format, which ensures that viewers are never left short on excitement.
The match begins with just two wrestlers in the ring but a new star can enter every 90 seconds up to the point that all 30 have entered.
A competitor is eliminated if they are thrown over the top rope and both their feet touch the arena floor.
The reward for being the last remaining competitor is an opportunity for a championship match at WrestleMania in April in Las Vegas.

When is Royal Rumble 2025?
This year, WWE’s Royal Rumble will be held on February 1, with the show setto begin at 11pm in the UK.
It is one of the most highly-anticipated events in years, given the presence of an all-star lineup on the men’s side of the draw.
John Cena, CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins, Jey Uso, Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre and Sami Zayn will be joined by 22 other stars hoping to enhance their chances of a shot at WrestleMania.
Notable names in the women’s match include Bayley, Nia Jax, Liv Morgan, Bianca Belair, Naomi and the returning Charlotte Flair.
There are also two championship matches on the undercard – with Cody Rhodes facing Kevin Owens in a battle for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
#DIY will defend their WWE Tag Team championship against former champions Motor City Machine Guns in a 2-out-of-3 falls match.
