Man United ‘in talks with Barcelona’ over loan deal for Marcus Rashford – as they continue to hunt for exit solution for wantaway star

Manchester United are in talks with Barcelona over a loan deal for Marcus Rashford, according to a report.

Rashford’s time at Old Trafford has been a nightmare since Ruben Amorim took charge late last year, from the forward initially losing his place in the squad to revealing he wants to leave.

But things perhaps have been at their worst in their last few days, with Amorim revealing he would rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital than bring Rashford back into the fold.

Still, Rashford has trained with the United team, cracking a smile on Wednesday with Mail Sport in attendance, despite being left out of the 21-man squad to travel to Bucharest for United’s Europa League clash with FCSB.

He has been continuously linked with a move away from the club this month, though nothing has transpired with just a few days left of the winter transfer window.

Now, however, The Telegraph report that Rashford could be heading to Spain with Barcelona, with United and the Spanish giants in ‘tentative’ talks over a transfer.

The report suggests that Rashford is keen to make the move, but there are doubts over whether Barca could complete the deal in time ahead of Monday’s deadline because of their recent financial struggles.

A struggle to comply with LaLiga’s financial rulings has seen them almost lose countless players over the last few months – most recently Dani Olmo – and Rashford’s arrival would only throw more issues into the mix.

Rashford earns well over £300,000-a-week at United, and the Red Devils have found it hard to convince sides to shoulder a large sum of those payments.

The report suggests that Rashford and his camp see the Catalan side as the ‘only viable option’, with Barca pledging to raise millions through the future sale of VIP seats at the currently-uncompleted new Nou Camp.

They have already sold large parts of their future income, including future television rights.

Rashford, meanwhile he has not featured in Man United’s last 11 matches.

He last played for Man United on December 12, before being axed from the squad for the Manchester derby.

As revealed in this week’s Man United Confidential column, Tottenham, West Ham, Juventus, Napoli and Galatasaray are among a host of clubs ready to offer him an escape route from Old Trafford for the remainder of the season.

Monaco are believed to have taken a step back and Fenerbahce’s vice-president, the Hull City owner Acun Ilicali, said on Tuesday that the 27-year-old is not under consideration for Jose Mourinho’s side either. Arsenal have ruled themselves out of the running.

The 27-year-old has trained positively and shown no signs of discontent amid the words of his manager just a few days ago.
