Urgent warning issued over popular snack sold at Wegmans that may contain BONE FRAGMENTS

An urgent warning has been issued over chicken nuggets sold nationwide for possibly containing fragments of bone.

The recall is for 46oz family packs Frozen Fully Cooked Chicken Breast Nuggets sold by the grocery store Wegmans as part of its own-brand range.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) warns the $10.99 product should not be consumed.

It was notified of the issue after Wegmans received ‘multiple’ consumer complaints of bone fragments in their food.

While small pieces of chicken bone can pass through the gastrointestinal tract without any complications, large or irregular-shaped fragments can lead to a number of problems.

These complications can include choking, throat lacerations, ulceration, holes in the digestive tract or even death.

It is unclear how big the fragments of bone are in the Wegmans nuggets.

To date, there have been no confirmed reports of injury linked to the popular snack.

The frozen nuggets are no longer available for purchase.

The product was originally produced on August 26, 2024 with a use-by date of August 26, 2025.

Consumers can identify the product using the use-by date along with the universal product code (UPC) 0-77890-25210-9.

It also bears establishment number ‘P-33944’ inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The item was produced solely for Wegmans and distributed to various retail locations in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Although the product is no longer stocked at Wegmans, the Food Safety and Inspection Service is concerned that consumers may still have some of the nugget packages in their freezers.

Consumers who still have bags of the compromised product are urged not to eat the product.

They are advised to throw it away or return it to the store where it was purchased.

Wegmans said that all packages can be returned for a full refund.

Customers can contact Wegmans at 1-855-934-3663 Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 7:00pm or Saturday and Sunday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
