We’re only two episodes into Married At First Sight and the contestants are already ruffling feathers. In particular, controversial groom Tim Gromie has been on the tip of everyone’s tongue, and now, MAFS 2024’s Eden Harper has dropped a major bombshell regarding the newfound reality TV villain.
To give you a quick recap on what the go is with Tim Gromie, the 38-year-old PDHPE teacher lit the internet on fire with the cooked way he treated and spoke about his MAFS wife, Katie Johnstone, after claiming he was a “nice guy” and that “nice guys finish last”.
You see, Tim admitted he wasn’t really into Katie, stating that she “wasn’t really what I go for” and that his usual type is “short”, “petite”, and “blonde”.
“It’s just totally not what I wanted. Not good,” he told a producer after tying the knot with Katie.
Following this episode, fans across the internet rallied around Katie, and called for the 37-year-old CEO to be granted a re-do of MAFS.
But alongside the internet’s criticisms of the groom, 2024 MAFS bride Eden Harper revealed that the controversial groom had reached out to her in the DMs during filming.

Eden Harper, who appeared in last year’s season of MAFS, took to TikTok to reveal that the 38-year-old PDHPE teacher had reached out to him.
“I got this DM during Honeymoon Week of MAFS 2025 and I just thought it was someone asking for advice,” she began alongside a greenscreen video of the DM.
“But this is so fucked up after watching last night.”
In the text conversation, Tim complimented the 2024 bride, writing that Eden’s interview with Yahoo! Lifestyle had been “refreshing”.
“Hey been so refreshing listening to the interview on Yahoo,” he penned in an IG DM sent on August 11, 2024.
“I’m on MAFS atm and. [sic] Now so un sure [sic]. Hope to soon soon [sic].”
Eden wrote back, “Hey! Hope you’re doing all good in there! It can be rough at times.”
It appears that Tim didn’t reply to her message, but instead left a heart reaction.
“We stand with Katie,” Eden wrote in the caption alongside the mammoth tea spill.
Speaking to PEDESTRIAN.TV, Eden said that she didn’t think too much about the DM at the time as it’s normal for MAFS contestants to reach out to each other for advice, but after seeing last night’s episode, she said the timing of Tim’s message was “definitely weird”.
“I guess just that at the time I didn’t really think much of it but after watching the episode and how he treated Katie and realised the date of the DM was around the time of the honey moon, I was like wait a minute this is not cool!!!!” she said.
Ahead of his appearance on Season 12 of MAFS, Yahoo! Lifestyle reported that Tim had “deleted all of his social media” and that he is “refusing to do interview”.
“[Tim] wants nothing to do with the show,” an inside source told the publication.
Honestly, with the brutal stuff Tim said on Tuesday night’s episode, I could understand why he’s avoiding publicity at all cost. But unfortunately, like limerence, MAFS will linger for yonks.
