Singles no longer want to date men in finance… so what is the new ‘sexiest’ profession?

Is there a doctor in the house? 2024 may have been the year of men in finance, but in 2025 it is time to get serious about healthcare.

According to a new study by dating app The League, thousands of people have deemed workers in healthcare the sexiest singles – with doctors, nurses and therapists the hottest careers of the year.

The survey, conducted by Talker, polled 2,000 single men and women, aiming to find the most dateable.

Of those surveyed, 29 percent of men and women agreed that people working in healthcare make the best partners.

Over a quarter of respondents said doctors are the most attractive career for a partner, while nurses ranked third with 22 percent.

Despite last summer being spent looking for men in finance, just under a fifth of women are still looking for a finance bro.

The most dateable jobs for both genders include lawyers, scientists, pharmacists, and tech – specifically web or software developers.

While careers in education ranked as the second most attractive overall – men were more likely to find women working in education more desirable than women find it in men.

A large percentage – 44 percent – would prefer to date someone whose career ambition is the same as their own, with 34 percent are looking for someone who is even more ambitious.

Pay day also comes into consideration, with 39 percent of respondents admitting that they would like to earn the same amount as their partner. Interestingly, this was more common in the women who were surveyed, with 45 percent of women preferring it to be equal, while only 33 percent of men felt the same.

For career-orientated singles, a fifth of those surveyed said that they would ideally have a conversation about work values, goals and aspirations before going on a first date.

When respondents are on a first date, on average, they mention their job within the first hour of meeting, with 18 percent bringing it up within the first half hour.

Rachel DeAlto, a dating expert at The League, said it is no surprise that healthcare workers are such a hot commodity this year.

‘Careers in healthcare typically combine aspects of financial security, intelligence, and caregiving – which are all very appealing qualities in a partner,’ she pointed out.

She pointed out that ‘transparency is more attractive than ever.’

‘While there may be no perfect time to talk about careers and ambitions, bringing it up in conversation sooner than later in the dating process allows singles to determine if they share similar values and life goals from the start,’ she pointed out.

However, chatting about work on a first date may be a generational choice, with 39 percent of Gen Zs and 47 percent of millennials saying talking about work on a first date was a turn-off.

Other red flags included constant burn-out, long overtime hours, and switching jobs every year, as well as being an influencer.

Fifty-six percent of respondents even said it’s important their partner has the same career values that they do.

‘When partners share similar aspirations and value the same things in life, they’re better equipped to support and understand each other – and careers can be a great example of that,’ DeAlto explained.

‘The key is to stay open to finding that alignment in unexpected places,’ she continued.

‘We’re really seeing the importance of ambition underscored in this research, with 53 percent willing to give an undergraduate a chance, while 64 percent are likely to date someone in graduate school, further demonstrating the appeal of having drive and goals, no matter where your career is at,’ she said.
