Two-month-old baby girl dies after being found unconscious at a regional property in Queensland

A two-month-old baby has died after being found unconscious at a regional property.

Police have launched an investigation after emergency services were called to a Gracemere property in Queensland’s Rockhampton region at 11pm on Monday.

Paramedics discovered a baby girl with life-threatening injuries.

The infant was rushed to Rockhampton hospital before being airlifted to Brisbane where she sadly died on Wednesday.

A crime scene has been established at the regional property.

Officers from the Rockhampton Child Protection Investigation Unit and the Child Trauma Unit are investigating.

It comes as police probe the suspicious death of a baby boy at John Hunter Hospital in north-west NSW on Tuesday.

The four-month-old was first taken to Gunnedah Hospital by his parents where staff notified police of his injuries.

He was then transferred to John Hunter Hospital where he died later that evening.

Detective Inspector Tom Aylett, from the Oxley Police District, urged anyone with information about the infant’s family to come forward.

‘We’re looking for anyone that is in the community that can come forward about the family, anything they witnessed or heard,’ he said.

‘People in the community talk, sometimes that’s rumour, sometimes that’s fact – we want the investigators to decipher what that is and would encourage anyone to come forward.

‘It is the esteemed obligation of investigators to make sure enough information is put before the coroner or the court to make the determination of the child’s death.’

Detective Inspector Aylett said officers were investigating whether domestic violence was involved.
