Donald Trump’s inauguration menu: what will the Big Mac loving president eat on his swearing-in day?
Donald Trump’s second inauguration is set to be a glamourous affair, including a traditional luncheon where acclaimed guests will dine with the newly instated president.
After the newly elected President has taken the oath of office and delivered his Inaugural address, he is escorted to Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol for the traditional Inaugural Luncheon.
The Joint Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) hosts the traditional Inaugural Luncheon. It takes place in Statutory Hall, jam-packed with tables and people to toast the new president.
It dates back to 1897 when the Senate Committee on Arrangements gave a luncheon for President McKinley.
However, the modern luncheon as we know it today began in 1953 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower dined on creamed chicken, baked ham, and potato puffs in the now-restored Old Senate Chamber.
It is hosted by lawmakers who plan the meal and seating arrangements. For Trump’s luncheon in January 2017, they served Maine lobster, Gulf shrimp, and Seven Hills Angus beef.
Although the official menu for 2025 has not been released, experts believe they have a good idea of what will be served, as it often features cuisine reflecting the home states of the new President and Vice President – meaning this year’s guests can expect to see dishes hailing from Florida and Ohio – as well as the theme of the inauguration.
Trump’s theme for this year’s ceremonies is ‘Out Enduring Democracy: A Constitutional Promise.’

The luncheon also involves speeches, toasts and gifts. The JCCIC cancelled President Joe Biden’s luncheon in 2021, citing the coronavirus pandemic.
President Barack Obama’s 2013 luncheon served steamed lobster, grilled bison and apple pie.
Obama, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush will not attend Trump’s traditional inaugural lunch, sources told NBC News.
Obama received an invitation but declined, and Bush’s office said it was not tracking an invitation to the luncheon.
Former President Clinton and his wife, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, reportedly received invitations but will not attend.
Trump will be sworn in as America’s 47th President at noon Washington DC time inside the Capitol Rotunda on Monday – instead of outside on the building’s steps – due to bitterly cold weather and snow flurries.
Temperatures are projected to hit a low of 12F and a high of 23F. With the wind chill factored in, forecasters say the temperature will feel significantly colder.
This means that most of the one million fans headed to the capital from all over America to celebrate are now being told to watch the ceremony on TV.
