The Barbie IP got a big boost in 2023 with the release of the Margot Robbie-starring “Barbie” movie, and the iconic doll only got more popular from there, with celebrity collaborations with everyone from Mariah Carey to Rita Moreno.

Now, Mattel has unveiled its latest pop culture release — an official Lunar New Year Barbie doll that’s sure to be a hit with Barbie fans and collectors alike.

The official 2025 Barbie doll is regal and resplendent, dressed in a traditional Chinese gipao that was first worn by royals from the Qing dynasty. The red and gold colorway are symbols of prosperity, while plum blossom petals adorn the dress, symbolizing strength and resilience. The dress is given a modern flair with a tailored mermaid silhouette and puffy bell sleeves.

Incredible attention to detail is paid here, with dangling gold earrings, a knotted gold belt and golden heels. The doll is presented in a collectible display inspired by pagoda-style woodworking.

The 2025 Lunar New Year Barbie is selling quickly online, with units already popping up on resale sites like eBay.

While the above Barbie doll is new for 2025, retailers like Amazon and Walmart still have previous Barbie Lunar New Year dolls still available for purchase. The figures draw inspiration from traditional Chinese prints and cheongsams to the Peking Opera. Find them in stock at the retailers below.

First released in 2022, this Barbie doll is dressed in a traditional Asian garment in a pink and red colorway. Pink cherry blossoms help to accessorize her black hair.

This Barbie is dressed in a traditional Chinese cheongsam, often worn for weddings and celebrations. The peony print signifies abundance, while the classic red color represents good fortune.

This Barbie is outfitted in a traditional hanfu robe, often associated with the Han dynasty. Mattel says the traditional Chinese prints on the dress, meantime, are influenced by woodblock art from the Tang dynasty.

Lunar New Year, which starts on the new moon and marks the beginning of the Lunar calendar, takes place on January 29, 2025.
