The Head of Healthcare discusses support for artificial intelligence applications with the JICA delegation

Dr. Ahmed Al-Sobky, Chairman of the Health Care Authority and General Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Project, met with a delegation from a management consulting company and representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This comes in support of the Egyptian-Japanese cooperation efforts to support applications of artificial intelligence and digital solutions in various sectors. , especially the health sector.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki said that the meeting discussed ways of technical and artistic cooperation between the Health Care Authority, a private company, and JICA to activate artificial intelligence applications in the health sector. He explained that the Authority possesses a huge database that includes more than 6 million electronic medical files and 500 million archived x-ray images, which enhances its ability to improve the quality of health services and develop the health care system in Egypt.

Al-Sabki explained that it was initially agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding between the Health Care Authority and a company to determine priorities. The Authority and valuable projects, in line with the aspirations of comprehensive health insurance beneficiaries, and confirmed the immediate start of adapting artificial intelligence technologies to support health planning, radiology management, telemedicine, management of non-medical operations within facilities, and early detection. For diseases.

Al-Subki confirmed that the Authority has a qualified infrastructure and an advanced digital culture that enables it to activate artificial intelligence technologies in its health facilities.

 He added that the phased expansion of the comprehensive health insurance system will be by 2030. It will include the establishment of 6,000 family medicine units and centers and 1,000 hospitals, which will enable the authority to manage health facilities with high efficiency using artificial intelligence technologies.

He pointed out that the authority We are about to launch the first center for artificial intelligence applications in Egypt and Africa in Ismailia Governorate during the current year.

The center will be operated in three basic stages, including hiring experts and programmers, then building the human capabilities necessary to operate the center, leading to the establishment of a center of excellence for the authority in Applications of artificial intelligence within 5 years, to be a platform for displaying inspiring success stories and transferring experiences.

Al-Subki added that building management systems using artificial intelligence have already achieved tangible results, as they have contributed to reducing energy use costs. In the Suez Medical Complex by 25%, he confirmed that the Authority possesses a huge information reserve and an advanced infrastructure that makes it qualified to activate artificial intelligence applications immediately within its health facilities.

The Chairman of the Health Care Authority appreciated the company’s role in supporting major projects that require business models. Innovative and strategic plans to achieve the desired goals.

He praised the role of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as a success partner in modernizing the Egyptian health system, stressing the importance of continuing cooperation with JICA to localize the latest international expertise. In the health sector, as Japan is one of the most prominent development partners in Egypt.

For their part, the company delegation affirmed their full commitment to supporting plans to improve performance in various sectors, especially the health sector, by providing innovative consultations and solutions that enhance sustainability and improve services.  

While JICA representatives expressed their happiness with the quality of implementation of Japanese health projects in Egypt, praising the innovative methods that were adopted to develop the health system and achieve a qualitative leap in the quality of services provided.
