How To Spend A Day At The Australian Open

Okay, folks, you know the drill. The Australian Open is back again for another year and is taking over Melbourne from January 6 until January 26. That’s a whopping 20 days jam-packed with tennis, so you have zero excuses for sitting this one out.

As any Australian Open regular will tell you, the games are only half of the experience. Live music, fashion shows, even video games will be bringing the good vibes this year.

Even better, you can access all of these with a standard Ground Pass, so you don’t need to feel left out of all the big events.

If you’re keen to make the most out of the event after trekking all the way into the city, here’s everything you can do in a day at the Australian Open

Play at TOPCOURT

If you’ve caught the tennis bug after watching a match and are dying to play a game yourself, you can do so at TOPCOURT.

There are plenty of experiences to sink your time into this year, including getting out onto a tennis court to play some matches. Or, if you’d prefer, you can also head over to the basketball courts or the Padel arena for some friendly competition.

Fanging for a meal and a drink after playing some vicious matches on the courts? Well, lucky you because you can spare yourself the long trek back to Fed Square and hit up the Courtside Bar instead. You can grab a drink and enjoy gourmet bites, including fried chicken, burritos, and burgers.

Or, if you want to satisfy your sweet tooth, you can try out the Peach Melbourne soft serve or Oakberry’s yum acai bowl. You’ll also get to grab a bird’s eye view of the game while snacking your heart out. Name a better way to spend a Saturday, I dare you.

AO Live

To cap off the big closing weekend, some huge names in music will be performing at the John Cain Arena to send the tournament off in style.

Benson Boone with Bella Amor and Kaytranada with Channel Tres have already sold out. However, count your lucky stars as tickets are still up for grabs for the big Saturday night event ft. Kesha and Armand Van Helden, along with Bag Raiders, Kah-Lo and Jade Zoe.

A brief moment of silence for everyone who will have to trek into work on Monday after attending the Kesha concert, but it should absolutely be worth it.

You can grab your tickets through the Australian Open website right now.

Games for gamers

Exciting news for those who were raised on Wii Sports Tennis! Because Gaming bar Fortress will be holding a bunch of tennis-themed gaming events at TOPCOURT.

If you’re looking for a place to wind down and get away from the sun, you can head on over to the Fortress pop-up and immerse yourself in a variety of video games. These include VR Tennis, an interactive reimagining of 4-square, and a stacked lineup of arcade games.

Fashion at Sidelines

Now, let’s talk about the true underrated star of the Australian Open – the fashion, baby.

It’s not every day you get to go all out and put that summer wardrobe to work, and thankfully, there will be plenty of selfie opportunities to flex on your stories.

You can expect fashion and beauty brands like Ralph Lauren, Bondi Sands and the AO Shop to be making an appearance at the event. So, if you find yourself struck by inspiration at the event, you can quickly hop on down to one of the exclusive stores and grab a new outfit to make your season.

Ground passes for the Australian Open are already available to purchase online right now. And, just a quick reminder, the ground pass will give you access to everything in the AO precinct, including Grand Slam Oval, Garden Square, and the brand-new TOPCOURT. For more info on the event, be sure to check out the Australian Open’s website.
