The unexpected $59 item Kmart Australia can barely keep on shelves: ‘I’ve been on the waitlist for so long’
An unexpected $59 item from Kmart Australia has been flying off the shelves, with a waitlist of shoppers eager to get their hands on it.
The 168-pack graphic markers are always sold out, leaving many to sign up for ‘stock notifications’ to be alerted whenever the item returns to stores or online.
The markers are particularly popular with graphic designers, artists and creatives because they believe they are a ‘dupe’ of Copic Sketch Markers, which cost up to $664 for a 72-pack at Officeworks.
However, many pointed out the key feature that the Kmart version lacks: the expensive markers come with a brush nib for colour blending, while the budget-friendly pens have a chisel tip on one end and a bullet tip on the other.
Despite the differences, shoppers said the cheaper pens were a great, affordable alternative, especially for those who can’t afford to splash out on hundreds of dollars.
What makes the $59 set stand out is its 168 different coloured markers, all stored perfectly in a black zip-closure bag.
Only a lucky few have been able to track down the sought-after markers.
‘Kmart keeps running out. I have been on the waitlist for this 168-pack for so long and they finally restocked,’ one shopper said as she opened up her online order.

Upon unzipping the bag to reveal the 168 coloured pens, she said with excitement: ‘Oh my goodness… That is stunning. Wow cool.
She was particularly impressed with the bag’s built-in stand, which kept all the pens perfectly organised and standing upright.
‘It’s got a stand, holding them together in place, which is amazing,’ she said, explaining how other brands come in a case where they all ‘move around’.
‘It comes with a handy strap. This case is fantastic.’

Kmart shoppers have given the markers five-star reviews, with the product boasting a near-perfect rating of 4.7 out of 5.
‘I bought them and they are actually really good. To be honest, I wish the tip was brush but that’s totally fine,’ one said.
‘These markers are amazing. They lay down so flat and smooth. The colours are vibrant. Well worth it for the price,’ another shared.
‘This set has all of the colours that you could wish for. They are good quality and are long lasting. This big set is good value compared to others I have seen and used,’ one raved.
