Flight attendant reveals what NOT to drink on a plane

A flight attendant has weighed in on what to avoid consuming mid-flight – and some safe workarounds.

Kat Kamalani, a digital creator and an ex-flight attendant, told followers the thing she would never consume on a plane.

‘Never consume any liquid that is not in a can or a bottle,’ the mom-of-two declared in an Instagram Reel.

She added the reason behind her staunch anti-water tank position was because they are rarely cleaned.

‘They are disgusting,’ she declared.

‘Talk to a flight attendant – we rarely drink the coffee or tea they come from the same water tank,’ she pointed out.

She continued: ‘When you’re drinking that coffee and tea come from hot water and it’s absolutely disgusting.’

She then pointed to a picture of the airplane coffee machines, claiming they are ‘rarely cleaned’ unless they are broken.

Kat assured viewers the actual pots from the machine are taken out between flights but the whole machine is never cleaned properly.

‘And, they’re by the lavatories,’ she shared.

The mom then shared a handy trick for parents wanting to make their baby a bottle mid-flight.

‘So tip for all you parents, never ask for hot water and put it in your baby’s bottle,’ the mom said.

‘Ask for bottled water on the side and hot water in a cup then make your baby a bottle with the bottled water and put it in the cup and heat it up.’

Users were divided over the advice, many claiming they are also flight attendants have have no qualms with drinking the water on board.

‘I’m a flight attendant. US carrier. This nonsense has been going on for years. And for years I’ve drank the coffee and tea on airplanes- never have I ever been sick from it,’ someone commented.

‘NOT TRUE! Flight attendants always drink the coffee! I’ve been flying since 1985 and one of the first things we do is make the coffee! It’s a rumor it’s the same tank as the lavs!!!!’ added another.

‘Those water tanks meet federal standards and also please tell me how often do you clean the water lines in your house?’ questioned someone else.

‘I bring my own water bottle and that’s all I drink on a plane,’ someone shared.

Last year, a flight attendant from the U.S., who worked as cabin crew for a number of years with various airlines, shared some of her observations and pro tips with DailyMail.com.

She says the hot water pots are rarely ‘thoroughly cleaned’ and they can be a breeding ground for germs.

Instead, she recommends sticking to cold drinks for the flight or filling a flask with hot drink from an airport vendor before boarding.
