Boy, 4, rushed to hospital in critical condition after hit-and-run outside his home – as police hunt for the driver

A multi-state manhunt is underway after a four-year-old boy was struck by a car in regional NSW before the driver allegedly fled the scene.

The four-year-old boy was left in a critical condition after being hit by a car at 7am Friday outside his home on Dick Road in Lavington, a suburb of Albury near the Victorian border.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and treated the boy for a head injury before sending him to Albury Hospital in a critical condition.

He has since been airlifted from Albury to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne for further treatment.

Police want to speak to the driver of a white Holden Commodore ute which was seen in the area around the time of the incident.

The car has black rims and was last seen heading south towards the Hume Highway.

A white ute (pictured) was seen in the area around the time the child was hit and police believe the driver could assist with their inquiries

Albury sits within kilometres of the Victorian border and police are unsure which state the driver may have allegedly fled to.

A major search has thus been launched in both states as police try and locate the drive of the responsible vehicle.

Police have established a crime scene on Dick Road and are appealing to anyone who might have more information about what happened.

Anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV from the area has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers immediately.
