The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs confirms Egypt’s pride in its close relations with the European Union

The Minister of Parliamentary, Legal and Political Affairs, Counselor Mahmoud Fawzi, affirmed Egypt’s pride in the close relations it has with the European Union, especially after raising these relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.

This came during a reception with the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs today. Monday, the European Union Ambassador, Angelina Eichhorst, and her accompanying delegation, in the presence of Ambassador Dina Al-Saihi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Parliamentary Affairs, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

 

The Minister pointed to the positive developments witnessed in cooperation between the two sides in the political, economic and security fields, in addition to coordination on many issues of common interest.

 

Counselor Mahmoud Fawzi pointed out the importance of the upcoming visit of the President of the European Parliament to Cairo, noting that Egypt is also looking forward to organizing a first summit between Egypt and the European Union at the presidential level, in implementation of the joint declaration on improving Through political dialogue between the two sides to the summit level, these summits will be held alternately every two years.

 

The minister stressed Egypt’s keenness to strengthen relations with the European Parliament and continue consultations between Egyptian parliamentary representatives. And the Europeans, in a way that serves common interests, supports constructive dialogue, and strengthens the bonds of parliamentary cooperation between the two sides.

 

The Minister praised the positive developments witnessed in relations. Egypt and the European Union, since the issuance of the joint declaration on the comprehensive strategic partnership, during the visit of the President of the European Commission to Cairo last March, where the axes of this strategy include: political cooperation, strengthening economic relations, immigration issues, security, water resources management, and population development, Including education and scientific research, as they are basic pillars of fruitful cooperation between Egypt and the European Union.

 

The minister explained that dealing with the immigration issue must depend on two main parts, the first focusing on On combating immigration illegal immigration using traditional means such as monitoring borders and strengthening their control, in addition to providing job opportunities for young people in order to reduce the idea of ​​immigration from the beginning. The second part relates to regulating legal and legal immigration, in order to provide support to the European side in facing its demographic challenges by providing hands A skilled and trained Egyptian worker qualified to compete in the European labor market, especially in fields such as communications, construction, and transportation.

 

The conversation touched on "Dialogue “The National Dialogue”, where Counselor Mahmoud Fawzi explained that the “National Dialogue” An initiative launched by the President of the Republic, which is considered a model for strengthening and expanding political participation, reflecting the political will to improve the political climate in Egypt.

 

The Minister also referred to the Ministry’s role in the human rights file in Egypt. And the legislative and executive developments that occurred in the civil, political, economic and social fields, especially with the approaching discussion of the national report before the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights mechanism scheduled to be held in Geneva on January 28.

 

From For her part, Angelina Eichhorst, Ambassador of the European Union, expressed her sincere gratitude for this meeting, which reflects the depth of relations and partnership between the two sides, stressing the European Union’s keenness to enhance cooperation in various fields of common interest, and to continue coordination in a way that serves common interests and contributes to achieving the strategic goals of both parties.
