Happy Gilmore fans issue verdict on Travis Kelce’s cameo in Adam Sandler sequel months before film’s release
Adam Sandler has grown accustomed to negative reviews after more than three decades in Hollywood.
Travis Kelce, Sandler’s new co-star in the upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel, may have less experience in that area.
‘Kelce ruined everything,’ one fan wrote on X after a trailer ran during Wednesday’s Christmas Day doubleheader.
‘This is gonna be terrible,’ another added.
One commenter referred to an interview with Patrick Mahomes, who suggested the Chiefs star tight end should get some ‘acting lessons’ for Christmas.
‘No wonder Mahomes wants to buy him acting lessons,’ the person wrote after seeing Kelce in the 30-second spot on Netflix.
Travis Kelce appeared to be a hotel or country club employee in the ‘Happy Gilmore’ trailer
The film is expected to be released on Netflix in July of 2025.
Kelce, who has already dipped his toe into acting by hosting Saturday Night Live, has a much-discussed cameo in the upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel. And in either a remarkable coincidence, or a shameless exhibit of corporate synergy, a preview for the upcoming Netflix release ran Wednesday during the Chiefs’ 29-10 win over the Steelers on the streaming service.
The Chiefs tight end appears in the preview alongside music star Bad Bunny and ‘Modern Family’ actress Julie Bowen – a holdover from the original 1996 comedy.
Dressed as a hotel or country club employee, Kelce greets the eponymous film’s main character in the brief clip.
‘It’s great to see you back, Mr. Gilmore,’ he said.
‘Can we get Travis Kelce off our TV screen for once?’ asked one commenter on X.
Another referenced Kelce’s endorsement deal with a pharmaceutical company.
‘Brutal,’ the person wrote, ‘doesn’t he have Pfizer commercials to do or something?’
Many others referenced Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
‘The garbage @nfl push with him and that clown Swift is disgusting,’ wrote one critic.
One person ran a poll on X, which found that 63.6 percent of respondents are sick of the Kelce brothers. Of course, only 22 X users voters, giving the survey a rather small sample size.
Bad Bunny (left) could also be seen playing the role of a caddy next to Adam Sandler

Bad Bunny also appears in the trailer and is seen playing the part of Gilmore’s caddy on a golf course.
Kelce scored largely positive reviews for his 2023 appearance on SNL. What’s more, the 35-year-old is facing retirement rumors at a time when Hollywood appears to be calling.
Of course, Kelce isn’t done with football just yet. The three-time Super Bowl champion surpassed the 1,000-catch plateau and broke the Chiefs’ all-time touchdown record with his 77th career score on Wednesday.
Kelce has eight catches for 84 yards in the game, bringing his season total of receptions to 97. He now has 1,004 catches in his career.
He and Mahomes will likely sit during the Chiefs regular season finale next week on the road against the Broncos with homefield advantage secured through the AFC Championship.
