Higher Education: Developing the higher education system to keep pace with the requirements of the times in accordance with Egypt’s Vision 2030

Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said that the Ministry is working to develop the higher education system to keep pace with the requirements of the times, under the guidance of the political leadership and in accordance with Egypt’s Vision 2030, explaining that the Ministry seeks to build national cadres capable of competing in the labor market by linking the educational process to the needs of different sectors. The Minister added that the Ministry took serious and rapid steps during the year 2024 to build a system of training, qualification and connection to the labor market, in light of the national strategy for higher education and scientific research. 2030. Among these steps is the establishment of 37 university centers for professional development in 29 universities as a first phase, and that the second phase will see the scope of the project expanded to include 46 centers by 2026. With the aim of covering all universities, in light of the cooperation protocol concluded with the United States Agency for International Development and the American University in Cairo, which is being implemented with a budget of $63 million, stressing the importance of these centers in bridging the gap between education and the labor market, pointing to the formation of an executive council to support them and enhance their role in Serving students, appreciating the achievements made by university centers for professional development in providing students with new skills and experiences that contributed to increasing their employment opportunities.

Dr. Ayman Ashour pointed out that the year 2024 witnessed the launch of an integrated national digital platform, which is the Ministry’s independent platform (National Dashboard – National CSM), in addition to seven university platforms in universities (Ain Shams, Alexandria, Suez, Minya, Assiut, Mansoura, Sohag), all of which aim to manage the path vocational, and linking labor markets with educational institutions and vocational centers, noting that the Ministry sought to expand the scope of the BeReady initiative  To include more universities and students; With the aim of building a new generation of leaders capable of advancing development in Egypt.

The Minister indicated that the BeReady initiative  Be Prepared achieved great success in its pilot phase during the year 2024, as thousands of students and graduates were successfully trained and employed. The initiative has contributed to bridging the gap between educational outcomes and the labor market, thanks to the fruitful partnership with the International Labor Organization and the Foreign Office for Development in the United Kingdom. It includes The most prominent achievements of the initiative are training 2,000 students and graduates, employing 1,918 students and graduates in decent jobs, and organizing many events and forums that contributed to preparing young people for the market. Work.

The Minister confirmed the continued success of the BeReady initiative, noting the launch of its second phase, which aims to train and employ 2,000 students and graduates. This phase includes intensive training programs in basic skills and the English language, in addition to opportunities to obtain digital jobs, An amount of $200,000 has been allocated by the Dutch Embassy to finance these activities, noting that a pilot phase of the initiative has been launched.  BeReady in the field of nursing in South Upper Egypt, in partnership with the Magdy Yacoub Center and support from the United States Agency for International Development, within the project of university centers for professional development.

For his part, Dr. Ayman Farid, Assistant Minister for Strategic Planning, Training and Qualification for the Market The work is within the framework of the BeReady initiative  To expand the scope of its services during 2024, it has included programs in the FutuerSkills4All initiative, which aims to provide 2,000 students and graduates with the skills of the future required in the labor market. These programs include practical training in fields of high demand; Which contributes to enhancing employment opportunities and economic growth.

Dr. Ayman Farid added that based on the mandate issued by the Prime Minister, a draft law was drawn up to establish a fund to support the career path and employment for university students, and this fund aims to provide Integrated services to support students and graduates of Egyptian universities and connect them to the labor market. This includes providing specialized guidance and vocational training programs, supporting university centers specialized in employment, developing their capabilities, and establishing partnerships with the private sector. To create job opportunities for graduates, and develop training programs for trainers and cadres working in the field of employment, stressing that the fund aims to build a strong bridge between universities and the labor market. Which contributes to raising the efficiency of graduates and meeting the needs of the changing labor market.

Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, the media advisor and official spokesman for the Ministry, confirmed that qualifying students and graduates for the requirements of the labor market represents a major priority for the Ministry, indicating that the Ministry is focusing on developing programs. Educational, and updating curricula in line with market needs, adding that the Ministry seeks to keep pace with global changes in the field of technology and integrate them into education to improve teaching and scientific research, explaining that the Ministry is working to enhance cooperation with companies and production sites to provide real training opportunities.
