Former UFC star suffers broken PENIS in training session – as fighter describes what the ‘absurd pain’ of horror injury feels like
Mixed martial arts is known for its many perils but one unlucky fighter has received the most unpleasant of injuries during jiu-jitsu training.
Brazilian star Mateus Mendonca is a team-mate of ex UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira, who took his impressive record in the sport to 35-10-0 with a decision victory over American Michael Chandler last month.
The 25-year-old seemed unstoppable when he first entered the Octagon, seeing off Pedro Nobre in 2020 and Ashiek Ajim in 2022 to get off to the perfect start.
But after three sobering defeats on the trot, in the bantamweight and flyweight classes, ‘Bocao’ was released from his contract with the company.
He recently rebounded from that disappointment with a kneebar victory over Luan Matheus within 20 seconds, taking his record in MMA to 11-3.
Mendonca has now received something of a setback, however, after fracturing his penis midway through a training session in Maranhao, Brazil, MMA Fighting reports.

The nasty injury means that the fighter will not be able to spar for another two months, after only deciding to go to hospital once a month had passed.
He said: ‘I was training with [a team-mate], and he landed his knee on my penis, and I felt an absurd pain and went to the bathroom.
‘I was in Sao Paulo the other day, and my thing looked weird, it looked different, it has a lump.
‘My girl told me to go to the hospital and they did an ultrasound exam, and told me to go to a different hospital right away for an emergency surgery.’
The doctors told him the bad news and now Mendonca will have to find alternative ways to earn some money as he attempts to mount a comeback into the UFC.
‘The doctor told me to avoid training and teaching for two months,’ he said. ‘I have to stay at home and do nothing.
‘I can’t teach and train, so I’m raffling that to have some money. I have a little daughter, and I brought my family with me to Sao Paulo to start training.’
Mendonca is selling off collectors’ items on his social media, including his UFC shirt and gloves.

The Brazilian also urged others to learn a lesson from his ordeal and remember to always wear a protective cup, even in training, in a warning issued to the Mirror US.
Last week, former UFC star Conor McGregor claimed he was taking on YouTuber Logan Paul in a boxing fight in India but reports in the last few days suggest it is not yet a done deal.
McGregor dismissed speculation that he had been set to fight Georgian-Spanish fighter Ilia Topuria.
‘The rumours of a bout with [Topuria] are false,’ McGregor wrote on X on Tuesday.
‘I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambrani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed.
‘I will then seek my return to the Octagon’.
