The Minister of Foreign Affairs receives the Egyptian candidate for the position of Vice-Chairman of the African Union Commission
Dr. received Badr Abdel Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration today, Dr. Hanan Morsi, the Egyptian candidate for the position of Vice-Chairman of the African Union Commission, in the presence of Ambassador Ashraf Sweilem, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Department of African Organizations and Groupings, to follow up on the progress of her electoral campaign and the African tour she is undertaking to communicate with the member states of the African Union.
Minister Abdel Aty stressed the importance of the Egyptian role in supporting the issues of the African continent at all levels, explaining that Dr. Morsi’s nomination comes within the framework of the Egyptian state’s direction to enhance its presence in regional organizations. For its part, she reviewed Dr. Hanan Morsi is the most prominent stop of her recent African tour, which included many meetings with presidents, ministers and senior officials in member states of the African Union. She pointed to the fruitful discussions she held, which focused on the priorities of the African continent and its vision for the path of institutional reform, capacity building, and strengthening governance within the framework of the African Union, as well as issues of economic development, empowering youth and women, and enhancing regional integration. She also stressed her desire to represent Egypt and the entire continent in this leadership position to advance the interests of the African continent in multilateral frameworks and contribute to achieving the sustainable development goals and the 2036 Agenda.
