Melbourne dad is ‘fired’ just weeks before Christmas

An Aussie dad has spoken out after being ‘fired’ from his job just weeks before Christmas.

Eric, a father of two from Melbourne, revealed he was terminated from his corporate job during his six-month probation meeting last week.

In a video shared on social media, Eric claimed he was let go for refusing to engage in ‘office politics’ while at the company.

Eric explained he was hired on a six-month full-time contract, with the possibility of extending once his probation had ended.

‘You want to know the craziest thing that’s just happened to me. Your boy just lost his damn job,’ he said in the video.

The video also included a secretly recorded clip of the exact moment he was dismissed during a conversation with his manager.

She praised Eric’s work ethic, attitude, and teamwork.

‘You do have good positive points. We see you put your hand up to help people out. You’re very hands-on. You’re also a team player as well,’ she told Eric.

‘The role itself is not an easy role to do, you actually did a pretty good job. You gave it a go, you tried your best.’

However, his manager explained they ‘had multiple conversations’ and decided his contract would not continue.

‘At this stage, unfortunately, we won’t be able to actually continue the contract on, she said.

‘It wasn’t an easy decision to make but (you don’t fit) the type of role we actually need for the business at this point.’

Eric responded, telling her: ‘Redirection is sometimes for a reason.’

The manager then gave him a hug.

‘Now it’s time to chase my dream,’ Eric told his social media followers.

‘Last night, I wrote in my journal, “Dear God, when will I know when it is right for me to leave my job?”

‘I sort of felt like it was coming.’

Eric speculated on the reasons for the decision, noting that halfway through his probation, he had expressed concerns about the pay being low.

‘I was doing good, just got nitpicked for all my errors and made big deals out of them,’ he wrote.

‘They want cheap labour that don’t know their worth. I stated the pay wasn’t all that.

‘So even if I stayed for a slight bump, it would have just been me working even harder for a couple extra hundred dollars a week.’

He now plans to spend his time working on his side-hustle, selling T-shirts through his business Cruzado.

‘So if you want, buy a T-shirt, or buy a phone case. I’m working on designing some pants, but it’s a long way off. Life goes on.’

The video sparked criticism of the company’s decision and many viewers questioned why Eric was fired despite his positive feedback.

‘She didn’t say once what you did wrong,’ one person commented.

‘That HR lady made no sense on why you were fired in the first place,’ a second person said.

A third added: ‘All I heard was you’re good in your role. So now I’m confused.’
