Secretary-General of the Council of Senior Scholars: Intellectual security will not be achieved unless the fatwa is disciplined

Dr. Abbas Shoman, Secretary-General of the Council of Senior Scholars, confirmed during the activities of the first scientific session held entitled: "The role of the fatwa in establishing the foundations of intellectual security" Within the activities of the First International Fatwa Symposium, it was stated that scholars are capable of deriving accurate fatwas that are appropriate to changing times and places, and that fatwas are an important guide for Muslims in their worship and daily dealings, and are an integral part of the stability of Islamic societies. The importance of the fatwa lies in establishing intellectual security by confronting misconceptions and intellectual deviations.

 

He pointed out the impact of the fatwa on intellectual security. In recent years, people have realized the impact of the fatwa on intellectual security, as a result of the spread of uncontrolled fatwas that caused controversy between the public and the private. What negatively affected the stability of societal thought, such as fatwas settling inheritance between men and women or denying the obligation of the hijab and other fatwas that harm the intellectual security of society.

 

He also spoke about uncontrolled fatwas, stressing that there are those who issue fatwas without sufficient academic qualifications, which leads to issuing incorrect fatwas. He continued: These issue fatwas with opinions that are not based on legal evidence. Rather, they claim that they are the truth and are based on wrong concepts, which creates a discrepancy in understanding and leads to discrimination. Among the rejected fatwas are those that claim equality between men and women in inheritance inaccurately, or that deny the hypothesis. The veil or the permissibility of alcohol. These fatwas contradict the legal principles and lead to intellectual chaos.

 

He continued, stressing that intellectual security will not be achieved unless the fatwa is controlled and stops within its legal limits, and therefore fatwas must be restricted to those who have the academic qualifications among the respected scholars and through official fatwa institutions only, and not Allow the unqualified to address it.

 

He also pointed out that Imam Rabia bin Abdul Rahman stressed that the fatwa must be issued by scholars who understand reality and local custom, and that the mufti should avoid being rigid on what is in the books without taking into account changes in reality.

 

The fatwa must be far from personal whims or media trends, because the mufti must investigate the truth and refrain from issuing fatwas in line with the whims or aspirations of the public, and this requires a deep awareness of the legal evidence. And higher purposes.

 

Dr. Abbas Shoman concluded his speech by warning against issuing fatwas without knowledge and emphasizing the need for the mufti to adhere to what is stated in the Sharia and ijtihad in accordance with knowledge and true knowledge. Pointing out that the fatwa is a great responsibility, and it must remain in the hands of scholars who bear the responsibility of transmitting and interpreting Sharia law.
