The President of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, Dr. Sahar Al-Sunbati, said that the file of children’s rights has received unprecedented attention from the political leadership, pointing out that this was clearly evident in many decisions, the most important of which was the issuance of the law reorganizing the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, which enabled the Council To carry out the role assigned to it in an optimal manner, in addition to the introduction of many laws that are considered a victory for children’s rights, such as the law on increasing the penalties imposed for crimes of female genital mutilation, and the law on combating bullying. And others.
This came during the Council President’s meeting today with the African Commissioner for the Egypt file at the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Dr. Letha Mosini-Ojana, and in the presence of Mustafa Zia, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during her visit to Egypt to learn about the most important efforts. Sahar Al-Sunbati pointed to the role played by the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood in accordance with the Council Reorganization Law issued No. 182 of 2023, as it is the national mechanism concerned with enforcing the rights of children and mothers. in the Arab Republic of Egypt, which is concerned with developing policies and strategies for childhood and motherhood to confront the challenges that hinder the promotion of children’s rights in Egypt, pointing out that the law has allowed the establishment of branches in all governorates, which will contribute to Implementing these policies and strategies that support children and mothers.
She stressed that great efforts have been made to eliminate the crime of female genital mutilation, thanks to the efforts of the National Committee to Eliminate Female circumcision, which was formed under the joint chairmanship of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood and the National Council for Women, with the aim of unifying the efforts of state institutions and relevant civil society organizations to confront this phenomenon. Crime. And providing a safe environment for them.
She stressed that Egypt has a strong legislative structure and a child-friendly justice system that is consistent with international standards, especially for child victims and witnesses, and that the philosophy of Child Law No. 12 of 1996, amended by Law No. 126 of 2008, has established the principle of rehabilitation and reform instead of the punitive path. Abdel Razek also reviewed the Council’s mechanisms for child protection and the axes of the national strategic framework and the national plan for childhood and motherhood in the Republic of Arab Egypt is “survival, development, participation and protection”. In addition to supporting the child’s right to participate, which resulted in the establishment of the Egyptian Children’s Parliament, which was established to be a platform for children to express their opinions, considering that children are the basic pillar of development and building the future.

It includes the General Administration for Child Help, especially the Psychological Support and Family Guidance Unit, the urgent psychological services that the Unit provides to children who are victims of violence and abuse, and behavior modification and psychological rehabilitation services for abused children through programs to develop behavioral skills and cognitive abilities.
