The QS World Classification announced the results of its version of sustainability for the year 2025, and the results showed the inclusion of 26 Egyptian universities in the classification, which included more than 1,743 universities from various countries of the world, an increase of 3 universities compared to the number of Egyptian universities included in the classification last year 2024.
Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, praised the results achieved by Egyptian universities in the classification, which means the goal of sustainability, noting the importance of the role of Egyptian universities in community participation, achieving sustainable development for the state, and providing all forms of support to the regions located within their geographical scope, Pointing out that the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research 2030 paid great attention to activating the role of universities and higher education institutions in general in serving society and the surrounding environment.
The Minister also pointed out the role of Egyptian universities, with their weight and the vital role they play in society, as a real driving force for progress and a locomotive for the comprehensive development movement.
The results of the classification showed that Cairo University topped the list of Egyptian universities included in the classification and was ranked 370 globally, followed by Ain Shams University ranked 574 globally, then Alexandria University ranked 580 globally.
Mansoura University was ranked 604 globally, Assiut University was ranked 653 globally, Zagazig University was ranked 667 globally, the American University in Cairo was ranked 693 globally, Tanta University was ranked 792 globally, and Suez Canal University was ranked 797 globally.
Menoufia University was listed in the ranking (1040_1021), Aswan University and Beni Suef University in the ranking (1061_1080), and Port Said University in the ranking (1160_1141).
Al-Azhar University, Benha University, Future University, Helwan University, and South Valley University were included in the ranking (1250_1201).
Kafr El-Sheikh University ranked (1300_1251), and the Delta Universities of Science and Technology and Fayoum University ranked (1301_1350).
The classification included the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, and the Egyptian-Japanese University for Science and Technology in the ranking (1500_1451).
The following were included in the ranking (+ 1501): Damietta University, Minya University, and Sadat City University.
For his part, Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, media advisor and official spokesperson for the Ministry, explained that the QS sustainability classification depends on 3 main criteria: (Environmental impact, social impact, and governance), and includes eight sub-criteria that depend entirely on the extent of universities’ influence on society and the academic field in environmental and social aspects. This confirms the participation of Egyptian universities in a tangible role in bringing about environmental and social change, whether through scientific research, teaching, social participation, or improving sustainability, clarifying that this classification is considered one of the important classifications globally.
