How to achieve TikTok’s Latte Makeup look

I don’t know about you, but I have a total of two makeup looks up my sleeve, and one of them is a summery bronze. So it’s nice to see the look go viral on TikTok, albeit under a new gourmand name. Introducing, latte makeup, the latest fixation for stalwarts of #BeautyTok.

In the latest addition to the food-ification of beauty trends—glazed donut nails, chocolate brownie lips, cherry cola hair, to name a few—latte makes use of coffee-coloured hues for a deliciously warm, bronzy look.

Coined by content creator Rachel Rigler, latte makeup began doing the rounds after Rigler recreated a look by makeup artist Tanielle Jai. Focusing on layering golden and brown shades that have honey and olive undertones, Rigler begins with a matte base using It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream brushed evenly everywhere save for the nose. The content creator then goes in with a series of bronzers, toasty eyeshadows and crayons, a single coat of mascara, lip liner and gloss. Rigler avoids blush, but I imagine a peachy hue would help lift the final effort. The result is a glowy, lit-from-within look that’s easily recreated with the products many of us already own.

Is latte makeup a revelation? That depends on who you ask. For those who were cruising beauty blogs and following makeup artists like Australia’s Ania Milczarczyk a decade ago, it’s very much reminiscent of the “bronzed goddess” look of the mid 2010s. If anything, the resurgence of latte makeup on TikTok is a testament to how timeless a beauty recipe it is, especially as dewy skin fades out and matte makeup makes its return.

Ultimately, the drawcard of latte makeup is its accessibility. For starters, unlike inane trends like so-called “vanilla girl aesthetic”, latte makeup can be achieved on all skin types and tones. All one needs to do is dial up the deepness of each shade for darker skin tones. Another pull of latte makeup lies in how diffused the overall look is. There are no harsh lines which means it’s forgiving in its application, and an easy look for everyone to master, no matter their beauty skillset. Plus, it’s a no-brainer for summer, when we tend to take a less-is-more approach to beauty.

So if you’re looking to jump on the latte makeup train and build a look that says “Capri in July” without ever booking a flight, here are the products we’d recommend.
