The Food Bank announces a new partnership to develop innovative solutions in storage and waste management

The Egyptian Food Bank, the first development institution in the region specialized in providing healthy food to those entitled to it, announced the launch of a strategic partnership with the Egypt Business Project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development, with the aim of supporting the objectives of the Egypt Business Project in developing innovative and sustainable solutions in the field of storage and packaging waste management. And packaging. 

The bank explained that the new partnership comes within the framework of the Egyptian Food Bank’s strategy through the advancement axis, which aims to build partnerships with pivotal institutions and bodies concerned with sustainable development, by providing innovative solutions. To achieve food security, cooperation between the Egyptian Food Bank and the Egypt Business Project is based on three main axes aimed at enhancing sustainability and efficiency.  

The first axis: Building technical capabilities by training 50 employees at the Egyptian Food Bank on improving data analysis skills, business intelligence, and impact assessment tools, which will enable the bank to make accurate strategic decisions to support communities and promote sustainable growth.   The second axis: Improving storage capabilities by developing storage management skills for 500 small warehouses within the Egyptian Food Bank’s supply chain. The partnership also aims to expand the scope of cooperation to include 3,000 additional warehouses through the “Training of Trainers” program. To ensure the sustainability of knowledge and improve operations nationwide, knowledge will be transferred from the Food Bank’s warehouses to 150 other institutions in the communities of different governorates, which enhances the effectiveness of storage operations and ensures their long-term sustainability. Through the third axis, the Misr Business Project cooperates with the Egyptian Food Bank to develop a sustainable model for managing packaging waste, such as plastic, cardboard, and metal, in facilities operating in Cairo and Giza, with the aim of improving waste management practices to be more sustainable and cost-effective, with a focus on Use recyclable packaging materials and reduce waste in the supply chain. It is expected that this model will support environmental goals and contribute to reducing the environmental impact resulting from logistical operations.

Mohsen Sarhan, CEO of the Egyptian Food Bank, said: "Cooperation with the Egypt Business Project  A pivotal step towards enhancing innovation in facing challenges, adding that the partnership highlights the importance of the role that the Egyptian Food Bank plays in enhancing food security through new strategies that support environmental and economic sustainability. Sarhan continued, saying: “Through this partnership, we seek to develop practical solutions that contribute to improving the supply chain of the Egyptian Food Bank Foundation, especially in the areas of storage and management of packaging waste, in a way that enhances the organization’s overall performance and achieves a positive and sustainable impact on the communities we serve.” ;.  For its part, it stated

The Egypt Business Project is proud of this strategic partnership that focuses on providing sustainable solutions to improve storage capabilities, waste management, and developing the food bank’s capabilities to analyze various data, which helps it make decisions 

She indicated that  The development projects undertaken by the Foundation serve in a constructive manner. This partnership represents a pivotal step towards providing effective support to the Egyptian Food Bank, which contributes to strengthening its role as a pivotal institution in achieving a wide-ranging societal impact."

She added:"We are committed to providing specialized expertise that supports the development of an integrated model for managing… Waste and improving the operational efficiency of warehouses. These joint efforts contribute to achieving sustainable development and expanding the scope of the Egyptian Food Bank’s impact to serve the largest number of beneficiaries.
