Podcaster and comedian Grace O’Malley has finally broken her silence on the end of PlanBri Uncut with Brianna ‘ChickenFry’ Lapaglia. And let’s just say, it’s not exactly giving BFF goals.
Here’s everything we know about the recent friendship and podcast split.
What happened to the PlanBri Uncut podcast?
For those who might not be in the loop, Grace O’Malley and Brianna LaPaglia were best friends and co-hosts of the wildly popular PlanBri Uncut owned by Barstool Sports.
However, it seems their friendship has been on rocky ground for a while now. Earlier this year, both women hinted at their struggles during episodes of PlanBri Uncut. Grace had previously said, “Things have been changing between the both of us and we weren’t fully communicating how we felt to each other.”
Brianna added, “We just weren’t wanting the same exact things like we always wanted.” Clearly, they were on different pages for quite some time.
Fans had also called out Brianna’s treatment of Grace on the podcast. Most recently, Brianna was accused of victim-blaming Grace for “a bad experience” that happened with older men, when they were both 16 on a trip to Atlantic City.
The last PlanBri episode that was published was on October 10. Brianna appeared on her other podcast BFFs later in the month where she said that PlanBri was on “a mental health hiatus”.
“It seems to be everything I say on that podcast is wrong so we were like let’s just stop it for a little bit,” she said.
Grace O’Malley was blindsided by the PlanBri Uncut news
On December 6, Grace took to her Instagram Story to share her feelings about the podcast’s conclusion. “If you know me you know I truly hate to be serious about anything ever, but sometimes you have to be,” she began, easing into what would become an emotional three-part statement.
Grace expressed her frustration over being silent for so long: “For months, I’ve been radio silent about the status of PlanBri and it has killed me to leave you guys hanging.”
She revealed that she and Bri had agreed to make a joint statement about the end of their podcast, but things didn’t go as planned.
Brianna shared that PlanBri Uncut had made it onto Spotify’s Breakout Creators list for 2024’s Wrapped. On her Instagram Story post about the news, she wrote, “Working on bringing back some version of PlanBri for you guys.”
Grace noted that this post left her feeling blindsided: “All I can say is that that was my first time hearing about this.”
She wrote, “This last year, I bit my tongue so much that I shouldn’t even have one anymore. I was willing to wait out of respect, but things don’t always work out the way you think they will. In fact they rarely do. I most definitely did not foresee any of this EVER ending,
“I don’t think I’ll ever fully get into every aspect of how this came to be, but it should be said that, although this was not a mutual decision, I’m realising that, in the grand scheme of things, it might actually end up being the right one.”
Grace continued to reflect on their time together: “[I’m] proud of what we built, nostalgic for all these years and frankly outright heartbroken that this chapter has closed.” It’s clear that this wasn’t just a professional split; it was deeply personal for both women.
Why did Grace O’Malley and Brianna ChickenFry stop being friends?
One reason that fans thought Grace and Brianna’s friendship had stopped was because of Brianna’s relationship with country singer Zach Bryan. In fact, after their very public breakup, Brianna admitted on the BFFs Podcast that Zach “demolished” her friendship with Grace for a moment.
Josh Richards, another BFFs co-host, said, “What happened was Zach hated if anyone else had an ability to put their input to Bri on like anything.
“He didn’t want anyone in her ear. He didn’t want Dave in her ear, he didn’t want me in her ear, he didn’t want Grace in her ear, so he split up the friendship between her and Grace.”
According to Brianna, Zach continuously isolated her from her family and friends and allegedly tried to silence her with $12 million (WTF).
Fans had hoped that with Zach Bryan out of the picture things between Grace and Brianna might smooth out. However, it appears that unresolved issues lingered beneath the surface.
What’s next for Grace?
Despite this significant change in her podcasting journey, Grace assured her followers that she’s not disappearing anytime soon. “I want you all to know that I’m staying at Barstool and, when it comes to chit chatting on a weekly basis, I’ll be right back,” she wrote.
Grace concluded her message by sending love to her followers: “I love and adore you guys. See you soon xoxo.”
Brianna is yet to address Grace’s response.
