Saquon Barkley left reporters puzzled when he misheard a question during a press conference and gave a completely unrelated response.
On Monday, the NFL X account posted a clip of the Philadelphia Eagles running back’s confusion from the presser – highlighting miscommunication between him and the journalist.
Given Philly’s eight-game win streak, the reporter asked Barkley if he ‘ever had more fun playing football’ in his life.
After giving a nervous grin, Barkley explained his season-highs in fumbles, ‘I think tied my highest,’ he said. ‘Last year, I had two.’
‘One last year and one this year was caused by the ground. But yeah, that was definitely a scary moment. When the ball comes out right there and, you know, I just thought, ‘Find a way. Whatever way to make sure I get on the ball.”
Barkley is enjoying a revival season with the Eagles as they have won their last eight games
‘I think it helped me,’ he added. ‘I haven’t been angry like that in the game since I was a little kid. I think that was able to help me get the first down on the next play.’
A member of the press then clarified what the question entailed before Barkley broke into laughter.
‘I thought you said fumbles,’ he said as the room laughed in unison.
After six years with the New York Giants that ended in frustration, Barkley is having a highlight season at the City of Brotherly Love where he arrived in the offseason.
In 12 games, he has recorded 246 carries for a career-high 1,499 yards and tied his career-high 11 touchdowns from his rookie season in 2018.
The Eagles hold a 10-2 record as they sit on top of the NFC East. They look to extend their streak to nine games when they host the struggling Carolina Panthers on Jan. 8.
