Ministers’ information: Egypt is ranked 20th globally and second in the Arab world and Africa in the Global Climate Change Performance Index for the year 2025.

Within the framework of the Council of Ministers’ Information and Decision Support Center’s interest in monitoring and analyzing everything related to global indicators and reports that deal with Egyptian affairs or fall within the scope of its interests, the Center highlighted the results of the Global Climate Change Performance Index for the year 2025 issued by the " German Watch”, the Climate Action Network (CAN), and the New Climate Institute, where it came in 20th place out of 63 countries with a score of 60.52 points in the 2018 edition. 2025, compared to 22nd place out of 63 countries in the 2024 edition. It also came in second place in the Arab world and Africa after Morocco in 2025.

 

The center indicated that the index aims to evaluate Policies and programs followed in different countries to confront climate change. It evaluates countries’ performance in four sub-indicators: reducing greenhouse gas emissions (40%), using renewable energy (20%), Energy efficiency (20%) and climate policies (20%) of the overall assessment, the index value ranges from 0 to 100; Where 0 indicates the lowest level, while 100 indicates the highest level in confronting climate change.

 

The index also divides countries according to their performance in confronting climate change into five categories: ( Very High – High – Medium – Low – Very Low), and since no country is strong enough in all sub-indices to achieve a very high overall rating, the top three are still Vacant.

 

The report indicated that at the global level, Denmark ranked fourth with a value of 78.37 points, topping the index list, followed by the Netherlands in fifth place with a value of 69.60 points, then The United Kingdom is in sixth place with a value of 69.29 points, and the Philippines and Morocco come in seventh and eighth places with values ​​of 68.41 points and 68.32 points, respectively, making up The five best performing countries in confronting climate change.

 

Among the G20 countries, 14 countries received a low or very low score, which places the responsibility on the G20 countries to mitigate climate change. The effects of climate change, as its members are responsible for more than 75% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.

 

With regard to the European Union countries, the Union received an average rating in general. occupying that position Of the 17 global rankings, and unlike previous editions of the index, no EU country received a very low rating overall.
