Cairo: Hani Kamal El-Din
According to Al Mayadeen, terrorist groups led by “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” have reportedly gained control of more than 40% of the western districts of Halb, Syria’s second-largest city.
The report states that “armed groups now control over 40% of the western areas of Halb in northern Syria,” according to the channel’s Telegram feed, highlighting significant developments in the city’s security situation over the past few days.
At the same time, Syrian state media reported that the Syrian Army remains in control of parts of western Halb, with small groups of terrorists infiltrating several neighborhoods. Social media had previously circulated reports of the Syrian army retreating from certain areas in Halb, with militants entering the city.
On Wednesday, groups affiliated with “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” breached the de-escalation agreement and launched attacks on Halb and Idlib provinces. The Syrian army responded by striking the militants’ supply lines west of Halb and targeting terrorist clusters in Idlib.
Lieutenant Commander Oleg Ignatyuk, Deputy Head of the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria (CPVS), reported that the situation in Syria has worsened due to the advancing terrorists. He added that Russian Aerospace Forces, along with Syrian government forces, are continuing operations to repel attacks in Halb and Idlib provinces. Over the past 24 hours, at least 200 militants have been killed.
