In Rome (Italy), tourists see a lot of work. A few weeks before the opening of the jubilee, several monuments in the Italian capital are affected, Friday November 29. Thus, the Fountain of the Four Rivers, sculpted by Bernini, is currently being restored. “We don’t see anything and it’s desperate”regrets a French tourist in front of the scaffolding. On social networks, tourists around the world film themselves in front of construction sites.
The famous Trevi Fountain has not escaped this major cleaning. The turquoise water pool has been replaced by a small swimming pool, to preserve the tradition of throwing a lucky coin. The town hall also installed a temporary walkway to take a closer look at the fountain sculptures. Everything must be finished by Christmas and the opening of the Jubilee. A restaurateur is struggling. “We almost lost an entire season, 70% fewer customers”he assures.
