Digitizing dialysis.. Eastern Health: We provided 134 thousand sessions, saving 60% of the cost

The national project to digitize the dialysis system is characterized by achieving the maximum benefit for the patient through the safe delivery of medical supplies to him via “barcode” technology, which in turn works to save the state billions as a result of controlling the work system and combating the transmission of infection.

Sharkia Governorate is the first among the governorates that succeeded in implementing the digital system in managing dialysis sessions, with 36 units at the governorate level containing 1,054 machines, serving 3,350 patients, in addition to emergency patients, as well as 2 peritoneal dialysis clinics, in Ouled Saqr Hospitals, and central Belbeis, activating 15 emergency dialysis units, 11 intensive care dialysis units, and a continuous dialysis unit. Dr. Hani Gemaa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in the Eastern Province, told Al-Youm Al-Sabea that the dialysis patient receives great attention from the state, which seeks to provide all aspects of good care and develop the units through its support for the development of devices and machines, as well as the human element to provide the best service.

He explained by saying that the digitization of the system is an electronic application that is downloaded on mobile phones and computers. Through the application, the number of actual dialysis sessions is monitored and vital signs measurements are recorded to follow the patient during the session. The application also allows the doctor to record medical advice for the nursing staff and follow up on their application in a documented manner. As well as immediate follow-up of the results of laboratory tests to ensure monitoring of the performance and efficiency of the sessions to benefit the patient and avoid the occurrence of complications.

He pointed out that the Health Directorate has provided 134,000 digitized sessions, since the start of activation last April in private laundry centers, and June in government centers, which saved 60% of the cost that was followed in the past, and thus we achieved the maximum benefit from medical supplies and the highest service. For the patient, he pointed out that the Minister of Health honored the medical staff at Al-Husseiniya Central Hospital for their excellence in performance and at the ministry level.

He pointed out that Sharkia is the first governorate in the Republic to implement the mechanization system in non-governmental “private” medical facilities, in activating and registering mechanization in government medical facilities after its experience in the governorates of Marsa Matrouh, the Red Sea, and Aswan.

He stressed that the success of the system came as a result of the cooperation of the human element, including medical staff and administrators, who received workshops to raise their efficiency, in addition to the state’s development and raising the efficiency of dialysis units at the governorate level during the past years, by supplying them with the latest machines and necessary medical devices, and also the participation of civil society in supporting These units have all the equipment.
