In Australia, social networks will be formally banned for all young people under the age of 16, a world premiere. The law will come into force by 2025. College students use social networks every day and regret that their accounts will soon be deleted. However, almost one in two young Australians say they have already had a bad experience on social media.
At just 13 years old, an Australian woman developed an eating disorder due to online content promoting weight loss. She was hospitalized several times. “We offer you more and more similar content, it never stops”she explains. Aged 19, she believes that the new law will better protect adolescents. In Australia, as in France, you must be at least 13 years old to register on most platforms. But this age limit can be circumvented.
