Since April 2024, technical inspection has become compulsory for cars without a license. These vehicles fail more often than others. A cart dating from 2017 passes its inspection. Maintenance is recommended every 5,000 km. Serious failures are regularly observed. In total, 30% of cars without a license fail the technical inspection, forcing their owners to return for repairs and a second inspection.
This figure is higher than for classic vehicles or motorcycles, and this is linked to financial reasons. “It remains very expensive in terms of servicing for this type of vehicle compared to a classic vehicle”explains David Grandinetti, manager of a technical control center. At the end of his visit, a customer of a car without a license must pay around 1,000 euros. He has two months to bring his vehicle up to standard.
