The Brutalist (2024)
Best Supporting Actor Commentary (Updated Dec. 5, 2024): While the Best Picture remains wide open, one category seems to be narrowing and already has a critical darling. Fresh off his critically acclaimed performance in “A Real Pain,” Kieran Culkin has emerged as a steamrolling candidate in the supporting actor race. His nuanced, deeply emotional turn has already earned him many accolades from major groups, and it’ll likely continue. That doesn’t mean it’s a done deal. Two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington is commanding attention for his role in Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II,” and breakout star Clarence Maclin, who won the Gotham prize for his powerful performance in the prison drama “Sing Sing” is still viable for significant recognition.
Let’s see what the Golden Globes will do.
The 97th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 2. All movie listings, titles, distributors, and credited artisans are not final and are subject to change.
