These extremists were arrested from six districts: Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur and Jiribam. They belong to the Kangleipak Communist Party, United National Liberation Front, PREPAK and the Socialist Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, police officials said.
According to police, pistols, high-power grenades, mobile handsets, several two-wheelers and a car besides incriminating documents were seized from the arrested militants. They also recovered ₹21.50 lakh in cash from a UNLF militant arrested in Bishnupur district, an official said.
Security forces conducted search operations and area-domination exercises along the fringe and vulnerable areas of the hill and valley districts, the official said. During these operations, shelters of a training camp for village volunteers were dismantled at Gelmol in Churachandpur district.
The Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP and Manipur Police recovered illegally held 77 arms, improvised explosive devices, grenades, ammunition and war-like stores from seven districts during joint operations conducted in the past one week, a defence spokesman said. They also arrested nine militants, the spokesperson said.
