Luke Shaw ‘absolutely devastated’ after revealing latest injury setback in statement – as Man United star admits he is going through his ‘toughest period’
Manchester United star Luke Shaw has admitted he is going through his ‘toughest period’ after revealing he has suffered an injury setback.
Shaw has made three substitute appearances in recent weeks as the left back worked his way back from a long-term spell on the sidelines.
The 29-year-old had made his return against Ipswich last month, marking his first appearance for Man United since February.
Shaw had worked back to fitness to feature for England at Euro 2024 after a hamstring problem, but sustained a calf injury ahead of the new Premier League season.
The full back has now sustained a new muscle issue and expected to be out for a few weeks.
In an emotional statement on social media, Shaw said he is ‘absolutely devastated’ after confirming has suffered a ‘small setback’.

‘Hi guys, it’s hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forward, but unfortunately I’ve had a small setback,’ Shaw wrote.
‘I’ve been through a lot and had a lot of ups and downs but this has definitely been my toughest period.
‘I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment in time.
‘I understand there is gunna be people frustrated, angry, disappointed and I understand all that. There is no one feeling that more than me at this moment in time.
‘But what I can promise is I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season.
‘Thank you to everyone for the support. It really doesn’t go unnoticed and I really do appreciate it.’
Shaw had returned to the Man United start when he came off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Ipswich last month, which marked Ruben Amorim’s first match as head coach.
He featured as a substitute in the Europa League against Bodo/Glimt last week and also came on in the 4-0 home win over Everton on Sunday.
