Mathilde Fontez: And it is not just a small cerebral adjustment that this team from the New York University School of Medicine. Just before birth, around 37e week of pregnancy, there is a major upheaval in the baby’s brain connections.
In many regions of the brain, exchanges between neurons intensify. Researchers speak of a dramatic increase in connections. We had never seen this phenomenon before.
This team is the first to have compared, using medical imaging, the fetal brain before and after birth. They were able to directly observe the changes, in 140 babies.
